The SCOR Group (SCO)(Nasdaq: SCOX), a leading provider of Linux and UNIX business software solutions, has announced that SCO Linux 4.0, powered by UnitedLinux, has been certified with the latest edition of IBM DB2, Version 8.1. This certification allows companies using SCO Linux to simplify and automate many of the tasks associated with maintaining their database systems.
SCO Linux 4.0 is a high-quality Linux operating system designed for mission-critical business applications and provides customers with the base UnitedLinux operating system that customers need to successfully run Linux in business environments. IBM DB2 Version 8.1 is a self-managing and self-tuning relational database management system, strong enough to meet the demands of large corporations and flexible enough to serve medium-sized and small businesses. IBM DB2 provides database technology leadership, easing the complexity and cost of managing e-business applications and laying the foundation for integrating information across the enterprise.
IDC anticipates that the market opportunity alone for relational database servers on Linux is expected to increase from US$30 million in 2000 to $3.4 billion in 2004, a compound annual growth rate of 226 per cent. IDC also recognised IBM as the worldwide marketshare leader for databases on the Linux platform with more than 56 per cent of the market.
"SCO Linux 4.0, powered by UnitedLinux, continues to impress our customers and partners with its unrivalled dependability and universality as well as its price performance. As the leading relational database management system, IBM DB2 Version 8.1 makes SCO Linux an even more viable and valuable operating system," said Kieran O'Shaughnessy, SCO's regional general manager for Australia and New Zealand.
