CLIMATE CHANGE MANUAL AWARD RECOGNITION

Announcement posted by City of Canada Bay 29 Jul 2014

Our work in sustainability has been recognised with another award win, says City of Canada Bay Mayor, Angelo Tsirekas.

City of Canada Bay won the Climate Change Resilience Category at the inaugural 2014 IPWEA (Institute of Public Works Engineering Australasia) Sustainable Solutions in Public Works Awards.

The national award was presented to City of Canada Bay for the development of the Climate Adaptation Manual for Local Government: Embedding Resilience to Climate Change.

“We were proud to play an important role in developing the manual , ensuring it will become an important tool for other local governments to make practical and important changes to protect their environment and communities”, Mayor Tsirekas said.

“This most recent award win is further validation of the fantastic work Council is doing in the area of sustainability”, Mayor Tsirekas added.

Providing a number of practical case studies, the manual will assist Councils in making important changes to protect their own environment and communities.

The manual, which was launched in May, highlights leading case studies and practical resources from Australian councils and overseas. It is a useful resource for council staff involved in climate risk assessment and planning such as asset managers, strategic planners, and corporate and community services staff.

Climate Adaptation Manual for Local Government: Embedding Resilience to Climate Change was developed in collaboration with The Australian Centre of Excellence for Local Government (ACELG), RPS Group and partner councils from all Australian states.
