ENTERTAINMENT GALORE AT FERRAGOSTO

Announcement posted by City of Canada Bay 01 Aug 2014

Traditional Italian dancing, singing and performances will make audiences feel like they’ve travelled to Italy at this year’s Ferragosto Festival, says Mayor Angelo Tsirekas.

“We are entering the 17th year of Ferragosto and there is so much Italian talent and activities, it’ll make festival-goers feel as though they have left Sydney and are enjoying a vibrant Sunday in Italy,” Mayor Tsirekas said.

Ferrafesta (main stage) will bring the Italian party to life with stand-out performances by EuroLatino. The combination of romantic Italian sounds with pulsating Latino rhythms will excite audiences.

The party will continue at FerraMusica and FerraGiovani with all-day entertainment by home-grown entertainers that will get the festival moving with dancing and music.

“There is something for everyone at Ferragosto, from the staged entertainment to the roving performances, trivia and competitions. However, what’s really exciting this year is all the new additions which will bring more fun to an already great day out,” Mayor Tsirekas said.

“What better way to soak up the Italian atmosphere than with a coffee, pastry (or slice of pizza) and an Italian film? We will be showing two Italian films through-out the day on Garfield Street.

“Don’t miss the free Carnival Mask making workshops, or grab a picture posed as a pizza maker or gondolier. The street soccer will be great fun and you can choose your opponent and see who can score the most goals”.

As always, stop by FerraPiazza, the traditional Italian square and enjoy the wine market where you can sample some wine while soaking up the Italian atmosphere.

Ferragosto will again be an environmentally friendly event and Mayor Tsirekas said we are committed to organising events that minimise environmental impact.

“Ferragosto is plastic bag and polystyrene free, we have free bicycle parking, water stations to refill water bottles, we use biodiesel generators to power the stages, our promotional material, flyers and programs are printed on recycled paper and we reduce our carbon footprint offset through Climate Friendly,” he said.

“I urge the community to help us in keeping the event environmentally friendly by riding your bike to Ferragosto  and parking it for free and bringing your own reusable carry bag. If you visit the Eco-Hub on the day and show your reusable bag or bike helmet, you could win a $100 voucher from a local bike store or the online eco store Biome.”

Ferragosto will be held on Great North Road, Five Dock on Sunday, 17 August from 10am-4pm.

The event is brought to you by the City of Canada Bay and is supported by Birkenhead Point Outlet Centre, Canada Bay Club, Cleanaway, Club Five Dock RSL, Inner West Courier, italianicious magazine, Community Relations commission for multicultural NSW, Channel Nine, St George bank, Leichhardt Fiat Alfa and Five Dock Chrysler Jeep Dodge, Canterbury BMW, Adshel and Aqua Source.
