Wagga Wagga's Biggest Ever Blokes Lunch

Wagga's Biggest Ever Blokes Lunch (BEBL) has received a major boost with Beyond Bank Australia (formerly Wagga Mutual) announcing a major sponsorship for the event.

Proceeds from the BEBL will go to prostate cancer research and awareness and will be held at the RSL Club on Friday, September 5.

Beyond Bank's offer of sponsorship came on the same day as the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia handed over a cricket bat signed by the winning NSW Sheffield Shield squad which contains 11 Australian players, including Test skipper Michael Clarke and vice-captain Brad Haddin.
The bat will be a major auction item at the lunch.

Beyond Bank's Community Development Manager, Karen Garrod, said the Bank was pleased to be associated with such an important event as it was vital for men in regional Australia to be aware that prostate cancer was second only to lung cancer as the most common cause of cancer deaths in men.

"Statistics show that men in regional areas were much slower to recognise the need for early prostate cancer tests so Beyond Bank was especially pleased to be associated with an event that promoted research and awareness," Ms Garrod said.

Beyond Bank is one of three major sponsors for the Biggest Ever Blokes Lunch (BEBL. The others are Murrumbidgee Medicare Local and Apex.
The lunch goes from midday to 4.30 pm and includes guest speakers Sam Kekevich the media and sports personality, and Dr John Tickell, international men's health specialist and author.

The Wagga City Rugby Men's Choir will perform and the lunch will be compered by singer and media personality, Grant Luhrs.

BEBL representative, Graham Gorrel, said the committee would encourage men from all walks of life _ sports clubs, business, service clubs and neighbourhoods _ to form tables of 10 for the event.

"The BEBLs have grown in stature in Victoria, they are a fun day out for a vital cause", Mr Gorrel said.

Tickets will go on sale from August 1 at 2WG's booking office on Lake Albert Road.
