WALKING BUS COMING TO CANADA BAY

Announcement posted by City of Canada Bay 13 Aug 2014

We are working with our community to establish a walking school bus in Canada Bay, says City of Canada Bay Mayor, Angelo Tsirekas.

In partnership with the Canada Bay Club, Council has appointed Connections Community Development to implement and work with local school communities to operate and service their own Walking Bus in Canada Bay over the coming years.

“A Walking Bus is an opportunity for our local children and their parents to get to school safely while doing some exercise, gaining good road sense and building friendships”, Mayor Tsirekas said.

A Walking School Bus is a group of primary school children who walk to and from school along a safe set route, accompanied by a parent who 'drives' the bus, and a parent who supervises at the rear. The walking bus picks up 'passengers' along the way at designated 'bus stops'.

“By reducing traffic and congestion around school sites, the Walking Bus also meets Council’s commitment to finding greener, more sustainable ways of living,” Mayor Tsirekas added.
