WA TRIO JOINS FORCES TO HELP COMPANIES CUT MENTAL HEALTH COSTS

Three West Australian organisations have joined forces to help companies slash the costs mental health issues can have on their operations and staff.

The collaboration between leading drug and alcohol counselling and support services provider Holyoake, psychological services and training providerCentrecare Corporate, and workplace mental health consultants and trainers Blooming Minds creates a one-stop-shop for specialised services to address corporate mental health.

“Corporate wellness is increasingly a priority in many organisations but the emphasis is often on physical health, with mental health lagging behind,” explained Holyoake CEO Angie Paskevicius.

We’re hopeful this collaboration will help turn around that worrying trend by offering companies easy access to a holistic range of programs to help them reduce the cost of mental health issues on their team members and bottom line.”

Blooming Minds’ Director Tasha Broomhall said: “With research confirming Australian businesses lose $10.9 billion a year and 18 million work days by failing to address mental health issues in the workplace, it no longer makes sense for companies to ignore the issue.”

The same research, released recently by Price Waterhouse Coopers and BeyondBlue, also found that for each $1 invested in mental health in the workplace, there is a $2.30 average return on investment.

“It’s been shown that employees with a positive mood are 31 percent more productive, achieve 37 percent more sales and experience 300 percent more creativity – these are huge benefits,” said Ms Broomhall.

Centrecare Corporate Director, Mr Tony Pietropiccolo said every Australian business could expect to be touched by mental health issues.

“One in five Australian adults will experience mental illness every year and this includes in the workplace so it’s now critical for companies to proactively manage the impact of it on their workplace. We’re pleased to have teamed up with Holyoake and Blooming Minds to help organisations do this,” he said.
