FootGolf competition in Western Sydney

FootGolf Australia (FGA) is proud to announce the Grand Opening of Colonial Golf & FootGolf Course in Werrington, New South Wales.

For those new to this sport, FootGolf is a combination of the popular sports of football (soccer) and golf. The rules largely correspond to the rules of golf and like golf its aim is to get the soccer ball in the holes in the least amount of kicks. The sport is easy to play as no golf or soccer skills are required.

FootGolf Australia is organising promotional competitions to give players the opportunity to try the sport and think about playing competitively at the local and regional level and ultimately representing the country in international competitions.

The first of these competitions will take place at Colonial Golf & FootGolf Course on Saturday, September 27 at 10am.

Colonial is the first certified 9-hole FootGolf Course in Australia and is located in Werrington Rd., Werrington (48km west of Sydney CBD). Owned by Merle Gordon, Colonial is one of those places where people feel welcome from minute one. Daphne Driessen-Jansen, a mother from the Northern Beaches who celebrated her son’s birthday at Colonial, puts it very clear:

“It was Tim’s 11th birthday party last Saturday and ever since we heard about footgolf we were determined to introduce it to all his friends.

Despite the weather we drove all the way from the Northern Beaches to Werrington (almost an hour) and when we arrived we were welcomed by Merle and Max who have been running the golf course and who have been passionately involved to get this sport off the ground. They explained us some of the history as well as the basic rules to us and…. off we went!! The boys were all so excited to be part of something new and to give it a go. With most of the boys being competitive footballers, the game was on! The ‘putting’ was the most difficult they said as they are all used to giving the ball a good kick.

After 9 holes and a sausage sizzle they all had appetite for more and they left the competition part and just played for another hour as a group.

I think this is a fantastic activity to do with a group of friends, sport teams, schools… actually any group will enjoy this as you can go at your own pace, play it competitively or just for fun. I know it will be a winner!!”

The Grand Opening of Colonial will have local government officials as well as a big number of locals supporting this initiative by Merle Gordon.

You can be a part of this celebration while you make yourself part of the history of the sport of FootGolf in Sydney and Australia!.
