Navman unveils Australian-first all-in-one GPS and digital drive recorder

Announcement posted by Navman Australia 12 Sep 2014

The Navman MiVue Drive - a perfect pairing that makes perfect sense for drivers
Navman has built its reputation on looking out for drivers and now it has your back like never-before, with the launch of the MiVue Drive. This innovative Australian-first device puts two and two together by marrying top-notch navigation and safety functions of a Navman in-car GPS with the features of a digital drive recorder that help protect drivers from fraudulent accident claims, road rage instances and provide evidence of who is at fault in a collision.

The MiVue Drive navigation offerings complement its recording functions because while features like free monthly map updates, spoken safety alerts and landmark guidance plus ensure you are equipped with essential driving information to better your driving experience, the digital drive recorder function will have you covered in the event of an unexpected collision.

“We’re so excited to be introducing another one-of-a-kind device to the Australian market following the launch of the SmartGPS earlier this year, which was the country’s first sat-nav to deliver live recommendations of what to do or see. At Navman we are always searching for new ways to help enhance the driving experience and offer our customers more. Digital drive recorders have really seen a surge in popularity in the last few years and have become just as essential to have in the car as a sat-nav, so harmonising the functions of both in the one device just made sense. We believe the MiVue Drive will really help make the in-car experience superior, easier and more importantly will help drivers feel safer on the road,” said Wendy Hammond Country Director Navman Australia.

“The digital drive recorder features work by continuously recording HD footage of your drive while the screen displays navigation directions. You can however choose to display the recorder’s captured footage on the screen instead of the navigation maps. The device automatically detects any incidents on your drive, then saves this footage as a protected file. Captured incidents can be used as evidence to help report accidents to police and insurance companies. The great thing is, having an all-in-one device means you can de-clutter your windscreen and just have the all-in-one gadget mounted,” she said.

First-class GPS features of the Navman MiVue Drive include access to verified and validated free monthly map updates for the life of the unit with Navman’s rapid map refresh feature. This consists of updates to new roads, along with safety alerts - such as speed cameras, school zones and red light cameras - and new points of interests such as hospitals, airports and sporting venues. As well as  spoken safety alerts including school zones that only alert you during operational times; premium driver alerts that will warn of any potentially dangerous changes to the road such as merging lanes overtaking lanes. Landmark guidance plus will also direct you using names and colours of objects and buildings you see in your windscreen, making directions easier to understand.

Meanwhile the MiVue Drive digital drive recorder abilities allow you to capture HD quality footage with a 120-wide angle view, from your windscreen. A 3-axis G-shock sensor will let you know the direction an impact came from - whether this is the front, back, sides, top or bottom of the car - making it easier to determine how a collision occurred. Once you connect your MiVue Drive to a computer you can obtain even more detailed information about how an incident transpired, as the in-built GPS on the MiVue Drive provides records of the time an incident happened and speed you were travelling. GPS co-ordinates will also help you work out the precise spot an incident took place.

The Navman MiVue Drive includes an 8GB memory card, so it’s ready to use right out of the box and comes with a generous two year warranty. It is now available at all major electronics retailers for $299. For more information, visit www.navman.com.au or the facebook.com/NavmanANZ
