D-Link Adds Wireless Print Server To Award Winning D-Link Air Product Line

Announcement posted by D-Link Australia 18 Jan 2002

- Easy Wireless Printer Sharing With Web-Based Configuration Utility -
D-Link, a designer and manufacturer of networking, data communications, broadband and digital electronic technologies, has added a wireless print server, the D-Link Air DP-313, to its line of 802.11b wireless products.

The D-Link DP-313 Wireless Print Server allows users to share printers wirelessly, increasing network flexibility and eliminating the need to both dedicate a PC on the network as the print server, or to cable up a static print server.

The D-Link Air DP-313 provides a high performance wireless solution for sharing printers over a network beyond the wired network infrastructure. Equipped with three IEEE-1284 compliant parallel ports, the print server connects directly to any bi-directional printer and uses the 802.11b standard to enable wireless communication between the printer and any
computer within the LAN.

A convenient web-based configuration utility makes installation of the D-Link DP-313 Wireless Print Server quick and painless, which permits easy set up of the printer and the printer queue as well as easy access to diagnostic tools.

"Our new print server reduces 'spaghetti cable' in the office environment and provides more functionality for wireless LANs," said Maurice Famularo, channel and marketing manager, D-Link Australia. "It extends our award-winning D-Link Air product line and emphasises our commitment to deliver new technologies of real benefit to the end user."

"Wireless print servers also allow the end user to easily evaluate and change deployment locations where printers are needed. This can be done with minimal effort," Famularo said.

Technical Notes
Strict adherence to the most advanced IEEE networking standard for wireless connections makes the D-Link wireless print server completely interoperable with multi-vendor environments that also meet the standard compliance for IEEE 802.11b. In addition, the D-Link Air DP-313 implements DMA channel support for high-speed simultaneous printing on all three parallel ports. The D-Link Air DP-313 also supports multiple protocols such as TCP/IP, DHCP, BOOTP, and RARP, which gives the unit flexibility in mixed-LAN environments.
