Philips Respironics introduces new mobile application and website, Sleepmapper

Latest sleep and respiratory solutions showcased at Sleep DownUnder Conference 2014 in Perth

Perth, Australia – Royal Philips (NYSE: PHG AEX: PHIA) will showcase its innovative range of sleep and respiratory disease management solutions now available to the Australian market at the Sleep DownUnder Conference 2014 in Perth, WA from 9-11 October 2014.

The Conference is an opportunity for Philips Respironics to demonstrate its healthcare and consumer offerings in sleep and respiratory innovations. These connect care from hospital to home and span the health continuum, helping healthcare professionals to diagnose, titrate, treat and manage these disorders whilst showcasing Philips’ commitment to disease management throughout the entire care cycle.

“Approximately 5% of Australians suffer from clinically significant obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA), with two times more men than women affected, which is a problem that has significant adverse effects on health and well-being,” commented Professor David Hillman, Chair of the Sleep Health Foundation and director of the West Australian Sleep Disorders Research Institute. “It is important that it is identified and treated effectively. It is vital that people with moderate to severe OSA get a good start to this continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy with support from their sleep physician and a trained therapist aided by great equipment, to track their progress accurately and allow adjustments to be made where needed.”

Sleep-disordered breathing solutions across the care continuum
Dedicated to improving lives of individuals suffering from chronic sleep and respiratory issues, at the Sleep DownUnder Conference, Philips Respironics is demonstrating integrated patient management software, diagnostic programs and science-based therapy solutions that are designed with the patient in mind. The mask range provides options to suit a patient's individual needs, leading to greater adoption of therapy and better long-term adherence.

Philips Respironics will introduce Australian physicians to the newly launched SleepMapper, a mobile app and web solution which is an interactive self-management system. SleepMapper empowers patients who use Philips Respironics System One positive airway pressure (PAP) devices to stay involved and interested in their therapy and motivated to stay compliant. A patient can view therapy feedback, set goals and access information, resources and tutorials about sleep apnoea and the Philips Respironics System One sleep therapy devices and masks.

The SleepMapper system incorporates features based on the research in motivational enhancement therapy of Dr.  Mark Aloia, Philips Healthcare Senior Director of Global Clinical Research. Dr. Aloia is meeting during the Conference with a variety of stakeholders to discuss strategies and solutions that allow them to offer quality care, therapy adherence while making the role of the provider as efficient as can be.

“In a challenging healthcare environment, it is becoming increasingly important for Australian physicians to efficiently and cost-effectively diagnose and manage patients with complex sleep conditions,” said Darren Umbers, Regional Director, Home Healthcare, Philips Australia and New Zealand. “By providing them with direct, easy access to a comprehensive, connected suite of sleep disorder solutions, Philips enables care providers to manage their patients’ sleep and breathing progress and increased therapy compliance across the entire health continuum.”

The SleepMapper app is available on Google Play and iTunes, to download to a smartphone or tablet and via www.sleepmapper.com to download to a smartphone or tablet, or for download to a computer.

•                Alice NightOne, a home sleep-testing system that features an intuitive design and easy-to use "smart guide" that enables patients to confidently set up the device on their own. The data display provides physicians with dependable information to differentiate between obstructive, central and positional sleep apnoea.

•                Somnolyzer, a clinically-validated, computer-assisted sleep scoring solution that is designed to enable quick turnaround times from diagnostic to treatment so that a patient is able to get treatment at the earliest opportunity for their sleep disorder. •                Philips therapy devices and new PAP masks are designed to help improve treatment efficacy, as well as patient comfort and satisfaction, which can support patient compliance. As part of a range of therapy options for treating more complex breathing disorders, Philips BiPAP autoSV System One device efficiently treats patients suffering from mixed apnoea, CompSAS or central sleep apnoea with/without periodic breathing.

PAP Mask line
Philips' new PAP mask line includes a nasal mask, full-face mask, and minimal-contact mask:
Nuance and Nuance Pro masks provide comfort and sealing power of gel to nasal pillows, designed to help patients succeed by providing a more comfortable and familiar feel.  The two Nuance options offer patients their choice of frame: an all-fabric frame and headgear that ensures comfort with fewer red marks, or a gel-padded frame and nonslip headgear.

Amara silicone and gel masks allow patients to choose the type of comfort they prefer in their cushion. Both Amara full face clear silicone and gel masks are small, lightweight and are most appealing. The new soft gel cushion conforms to the contours of the face, providing an excellent seal and great comfort.

Wisp combines the performance and comfort of a nasal mask with the aesthetics of a pillows mask. Compact and lightweight, Wisp offers a minimal contact experience, a great seal and an open field of vision. For more information on Philips Respironics, visit the Philips booth at the Sleep DownUnder 2014 Conference held at Perth’s Convention Centre, visit the Philips Respironics Facebook page or follow @PhilipsResp on Twitter.
