Latest sleep and respiratory solutions showcased at Sleep DownUnder Conference 2014 in Perth
Perth, Australia – Royal Philips (NYSE: PHG AEX: PHIA) will showcase its innovative range of sleep and respiratory disease management solutions now available to the Australian market at the Sleep DownUnder Conference 2014 in Perth, WA from 9-11 October 2014.
The Conference is an opportunity for Philips Respironics to demonstrate its healthcare and consumer offerings in sleep and respiratory innovations. These connect care from hospital to home and span the health continuum, helping healthcare professionals to diagnose, titrate, treat and manage these disorders whilst showcasing Philips’ commitment to disease management throughout the entire care cycle.
“Approximately 5% of Australians suffer from clinically significant obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA), with two times more men than women affected, which is a problem that has significant adverse effects on health and well-being,” commented Professor David Hillman, Chair of the Sleep Health Foundation and director of the West Australian Sleep Disorders Research Institute. “It is important that it is identified and treated effectively. It is vital that people with moderate to severe OSA get a good start to this continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy with support from their sleep physician and a trained therapist aided by great equipment, to track their progress accurately and allow adjustments to be made where needed.”

Philips Respironics will introduce Australian physicians to the newly launched SleepMapper, a mobile app and web solution which is an interactive self-management system. SleepMapper empowers patients who use Philips Respironics System One positive airway pressure (PAP) devices to stay involved and interested in their therapy and motivated to stay compliant. A patient can view therapy feedback, set goals and access information, resources and tutorials about sleep apnoea and the Philips Respironics System One sleep therapy devices and masks.
The SleepMapper system incorporates features based on the research in motivational enhancement therapy of Dr. Mark Aloia, Philips Healthcare Senior Director of Global Clinical Research. Dr. Aloia is meeting during the Conference with a variety of stakeholders to discuss strategies and solutions that allow them to offer quality care, therapy adherence while making the role of the provider as efficient as can be.
