Sydney, Australia – 30 October 2014 - Siblings share a special bond that is often tested in times of sadness or anguish, particularly when someone in their family is unwell. Three brothers from Sydney understand this more than ever after their Auntie was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2011. Jackson, Julian and Nick Tobias all shared in her journey as she lived and battled with breast cancer before overcoming it in 2013.

As a result of this hardship, the three brothers are jumping on board the #brotherforsisters campaign which launched this week with the help of Brother Australia. As part of their involvement, they are taking advantage of a world-first in wearable payment technology. Jackson, Jonas and Nick are all donning pink ties with ‘Tie Tap’ technology that accepts tap payments of $10 for the benefit of a charity close to their hearts.

All money raised during the campaign is for the benefit of the National Breast Cancer Foundation to help fund research into the prevention, detection and treatment of breast cancer. With the Near Field Communication technology built into the tie they are able to amplify their donation potential by roaming corporate offices and the streets of Sydney asking time-poor people to support the cause with a single tap.

Kelly Wilson, Senior Marketing Manager at Brother International Australia said the campaign aims to help the National Breast Cancer Foundation reach their goal of zero deaths by 2030.

“We have selected this charity as it holds importance to many of the women that work at Brother,” Kelly explained. “Brothers and men are stakeholders in the journey traveled by many women living with breast cancer. This campaign demonstrates that males play an important role in supporting their loved ones during this illness.”

Jackson, Julian and Nick Tobias will be making their way through the CBD of Sydney to raise funds to help support people like their Auntie who made a full recovery from the illness.

About the National Breast Cancer Foundation:
The National Breast Cancer Foundation is the leading community-funded organisation in Australia raising money for research into the prevention and cure of breast cancer. Since NBCF was established in 1994, over $105 million has been awarded to fund more than 370 Australian-based research projects to improve the health and wellbeing of those affected by breast cancer. Editor’s Note:
The National Breast Cancer Foundation encourages the media -- when reporting on cancer -- to provide sensitive coverage, using language that is supportive and inclusive of all people living with cancer.

Much of the current language used to describe cancer or someone’s cancer experience (i.e. battle, survivor etc.) can be exclusionary and sometimes stigmatise cancer. Please refer to the Cancer Institute NSW’s reporting guide for tips about describing cancer and someone’s cancer experience.
