Manager of Cuddles Childcare Centres in Perth reveals essential research that must be done by parents to ensure appropriate child care.
Perth, WA, 7 November 2014 - There are numerous childcare centres in the Perth area. Most of them are staffed with dedicated people who do a great job. However, every childcare centre isn’t a perfect fit for every child, nor is every child a perfect fit for every childcare centre. According to Michelle Novatscou, Operations Manager for three Cuddles Childcare Centres in the Perth area, which also cater to surrounding suburbs such as Vic Park, Cannington and Wellard, it is necessary to do one’s “due diligence” to ensure a proper fit for their child.

In a recent post on her company blog, Ms Novatscou recommended a series of questions that she feels parents should ask about any childcare centre they are considering for their child. According to Ms Novatscou:

“Even though all childcare centres are required to abide by a rather stringent set of rules, centres are often divergent in their interpretation and implementation of the requirements as set forth by the Government. You have to visit a centre, ask questions and make sure that it is the kind of place you would want to leave your child five days a week.”

Ms Novatscou recommends gathering basic information as a means of disqualifying centres that may not be appropriate for one’s child. This includes location, hours of operation, ability to change care days, the procedure for picking up a child late and whether any extra fees are charged and whether or not a centre is friendly to a child’s cultural or religious needs.

Next, she recommends visiting the centre to observe it and ask more questions. This is designed to experientially gather more information. She recommends first observing whether the children are happy and relaxed. If children are having a good time and the sound of laughter is echoing off of the walls, Ms Novatscou believes it bodes well.

She also recommends checking out the centre to see if it is clean, tidy and organised in every public area. Ms Novatscou also considers it essential to meet the management and staff. She believes that it is important for someone to be there at the door to greet and sign in parents and children. She also recommends making sure that security is adequate to protect the children.

Ms Novatscou believes that these and many questions are essential in assessing whether or not a childcare centre is appropriate for any child. According to Ms Novatscou:

“Here is what I would want for my child. I would want a safe, secure, happy environment where the child is kept engaged and happy all day long. I would want to see that my child’s individuality is cherished. I would want to see a centre that embraces cultural diversity and allows children to freely interact and learn about each other’s cultures.”

Ms Novatscou concluded, “All children deserve a nurturing environment.”

Cuddles Childcare Centres have three locations in the Perth area. Their motto is “Learning Through Play” and they adhere to the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF).
