The 2015 Skin I'm In Black Tie Gala Dinner

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Skin I’m In is a platform that was created by its Founder Debra Ojumu in 2011 and is committed to fostering pride in the skin we are in. Founded for members of the African diaspora and all who support our aims, we are dedicated to help provide professional, business and community networking opportunities, in particular through organised events and through the ongoing development of the Skin I’m In website.

We are very excited to announce that the eagerly anticipated 2015 Skin I'm In Gala Dinner event will take place on Saturday 22 August in the beautiful Clarendon Ballroom of the luxurious Langham Hotel, Melbourne and it is our honour to inform you that the Keynote Speaker is Ms Zione Walker-Nthenda.

A human rights lawyer, Zione will speak to the event theme of ‘community’. President of the Incubate Foundation, a not-for profit mentoring organisation that creates programs to develop the leadership potential of African Australians and increase their employment pathways, Zione is also a facilitator, mentor, trainer and an active member of the African diaspora.

Nigel Karikari, an award winning screenwriter and director, will be our Master of Ceremonies.  Despite gaining a degree in Architecture his passion for storytelling led him to his love of writing, editing and directing for film and television.  Amongst his many accolades, Nigel has won both an AWGIE for his short screenplay ‘Love Hurts’, a BAFTA Focus on Talent Screenwriting Award for his short drama ‘Static’, and best Director at In The Bin Film Festival for ‘The Deal’.

With the legendary comedian Tony Woods who will travel from Washington DC to entertain us, as well as Soli Tesema from The Voice, we assure guests of another memorable night.

The event theme is community and wishes to encourage a more collective and supportive approach amongst our diaspora in striving for achievements in social justice, and community, professional and business endeavours and also to acknowledge the many contributions that the African diaspora has made to Australia.

All are welcome to join us and partake in a night of inspiration and celebration, networking and entertainment and a call to action.

Indeed, let us all celebrate the skin we are in together with pride.
