Ben Knight and his team of expert coaches including Opals and Adelaide Lightning key player Renae Camino-Garlepp bring their expertise to Sports Camps Australia as he hosts his first camp these Easter School Holidays!

SCA are excited to announce the very first SCA Ben Knight Basketball Camp to be held at the Sydney Academy of Sport and Recreation, Narrabeen, these next April school holidays.

To be held over three days (8,9 & 10thApril) from 9am to 3pm, the camp is ideal for those players between the ages of 7 to 15 looking to improve their skills and be coached by some of Australia’s best professional players in a specialised program.

Ben Knight, whose decorated career includes playing professional basketball from 1997-2011 across Asia, New Zealand and in the Australian National Basketball League. He captained the Singapore Slingers from 2007-09 and the Sydney Kings in the 2010-11 NBL season; he was also a championship player with the Kings in the 2004-05 NBL Season.

His coaching record is just as impressive. He is currently in his fourth season as Head Coach of the Norths Bears men’s Waratah championship league team. Over Knights three-year tenure he has won two championships for the Bears. In 2012 he was voted the Waratah league men’s coach of the year. He is also in his fourth season as boys head coach at SCEGGS Redlands, who plays in the ISA competition.

In the 2012-13 National Basketball League season Knight was the lead assistant coach for the Sydney Kings under Shane Heal where the team made the playoffs for the first time in 5 years.

 

Knight has been involved with the Maccabi NSW Basketball club for the past 3 years where he plays as an import in the Sydney Premier League and is head coach for the Club. He conducts weekly training sessions for Maccabi NSW Junior and Senior players and is chiefly responsible for conducting Maccabi holiday camps and skill development sessions.

 

Knight is passionate about the development of young players in the game. When asked about his motivation for partnering with SCA he said, ‘Our mission is to teach, develop, organize, manage and offer young players the opportunity to learn the fundamental skills of basketball while instilling life-lessons and values such as character, team work, discipline, respect and sportsmanship.’

 

Renae Camino-Garlepp joins Ben as one of his star coaches and is a qualified NCAS Level 1 Basketball Coach. Renae has just finished her professional playing career where she achieved 48 caps for the Australian Opals including a silver medal at the the junior world championships, she has been a key player for the Adelaide Lightning and has competed in professional international basketball leagues.

The camp covers it all and will be held at first class facility for basketball. The Sydney Academy of Sport, Narrabeen boasts indoor and outdoor courts, a professional gym and swimming pool.
