Dentist in Perth: “Take Control of Your Smile; Take Control of Your Life.”

Firm offering general dentistry and pediatric dentistry in Perth reveals how appearance affects the way people are treated throughout life.
Perth, WA, 13 March 2015 - Recently, Dr Lisa Khokhlova, a dentist offering general dentistry and pediatric dentistry in Perth published a blog post about how appearance affects lives. Dr Khokhlova has practised general, pediatric and emergency dentistry in the Perth area for more than eleven years. She has personally helped thousands of patients attain good dental health and improve their appearance during her time as a dentist.

According to Dr Khokhlova, “We have seen firsthand how a person’s appearance not only affects their self-image, but how others look at them. We have also seen firsthand that one of the easiest ways to preserve and improve one’s appearance is by receiving competent dental care on a regular basis from childhood through old age.”

Why Appearance Matters

Numerous experiments and studies have been performed on appearance and how it affects people in school, work and social situations. Nearly every study ever performed that took appearance into account has proven that people gravitate towards and favour people who are more attractive.

It starts in school, where the most attractive children get the best treatment from classmates and teachers. They are also given better assessments and perceived to have more potential by teachers. It continues into the workplace, where attractive people are statistically more likely to be hired and are placed in positions where they make more money than those judged to be unattractive.

Even in court, attractive people are treated better. They are more likely to be found not guilty and given lighter sentences when they are convicted of a crime.

The Media and Appearance-Based Bias

People who appear in television, movies and magazines are usually more attractive than 95% of the rest of the population. In fact, women who are models and beauty queens currently average a weight of 23% less than women in the general population. Most of those who appear in entertainment media are so attractive that it creates an unrealistic expectation for everyone to be in the 98th or 99th percentile. This, of course, is statistically impossible.

Control Your Smile, Control Your Life

According to Dr Khokhlova, one doesn’t have to win the genetic lottery to be attractive:

“You can’t control your genetics, but you can control what you do with them. And one of the easiest ways to maintain a great appearance is to keep an attractive smile. This is done by keeping your teeth and gums healthy. The only way to ensure a healthy mouth is by a program of lifetime dental care.”

Dr Khokhlova continued, “Dental care starts when you are a child and continues throughout your life. There is virtually no time in your life when it isn’t to your benefit to have healthy teeth, healthy gums and an attractive smile.”

Dr Khokhlova concluded, “You may not win the genetic lottery, but an attractive smile can help you win in life.”
