Qlik Simplifies Big Data Analysis for Laboratory Supplier VMR

Announcement posted by Qlik 12 Mar 2015

Deploys QlikView globally to perform complex analysis of more than eight terabytes of data on the fly
Qlik® (NASDAQ: QLIK), a leader in data discovery, today announced that VWR (NASDAQ: VWR, website: vwr.com), a leading independent provider of laboratory products, services and solutions, has deployed QlikView® worldwide to perform complex analysis of more than eight terabytes of data.

Prior to using QlikView, the data analytics process for VWR was difficult and lacked flexibility.  The organisation had more than one billion data sets being pulled from various applications, spreadsheets, and other sources such as its internal customer relationship management (CRM) system.

With QlikView, leveraging the QlikView Connector for SAP® Netweaver, VWR users can easily link and access multiple data sources to unlock the insight they need in real-time. The easy-to-use platform and associative search model of QlikView allow users to ask a limitless number of questions to perform deep-dive analysis on the fly, whether at their desk or on a mobile device.

“With QlikView’s simple and intuitive interface our associates can ‘surf and save’ rather than rely on static reports,” said Jonathan De Deken, Vice President Information Services, VWR. “The platform provides our associates with real time analysis on important information to support our business.”

VWR initially deployed QlikView to 1,400 users throughout Europe.  Leveraging Qlik Consulting Services, VWR was able to launch its first application in only 10 days.  In less than three months the organisation deployed more than 60 applications, primarily focused on finance and logistics.  The applications are now being used by the controlling, purchasing management, and pricing departments.

Shortly after the European project was completed, VWR expanded the program to Australia, New Zealand, China, Singapore, and India.  In addition, VWR has deployed the program in North America to enable global data consolidations and analysis.

“For VWR big data previously presented a multitude of challenges along with its many great business opportunities,” said David Bolton, Senior Director, Sector Group Leader, Market Development, Qlik. “By simplifying the analytics process and putting business intelligence into the hands of the users, QlikView helps VWR overcome the complexity to drive important business insight whenever and wherever users need it.”
