A blend between an English tea house, a Parisian patisserie and a Belgian chocolatier, Passiontree Velvet‘s staff make every dessert, scone and sandwich by hand, in Sydney. 

Co-founder Chris Sheldrick said Passiontree Velvet sought to bring a European-quality patisserie and high tea concept to Australia, at prices that allow customers to indulge regularly, not just once a year. 

“I have had patisserie and High Tea at a variety of places from around the world and found the amazing ones to be extremely expensive and the more affordable ones to be lacking in quality,” Sheldrick said. 

“I realised that this is often because sweet offerings are an add-on or a second thought to a café or hotel’s main menu −it’s not at the heart of what their business does.” “Patisserie, desserts and chocolate are at the core of our business, so customers can expect a truly indulgent experience when they arrive at Passiontree Velvet.”

The training required to execute amazing desserts, pastries and chocolates is intensive, and Passiontree Velvet has the in-house services of a French trained, internationally experienced team of chefs. 

“I think exclusive dessert restaurants and cafes are becoming more popular because they give us the opportunity to slow down, socialise face-to-face and appreciate the finer things in life,” Sheldrick said. 

“Dessert is not about sustenance, it is about socialising, enjoying quality delicacies and creating memories with friends.” 

The Macquarie Centre store follows the same format as three successful Passiontree Velvet outlets in Queensland, one in Brisbane and two on the Gold Coast. 

Passiontree Velvet offers a carefully crafted menu that includes delicious breakfast items, sumptuous lunch-time savories and delightful sweets of almost every kind. 

High Tea sittings and Tasting Plates are available for customers to sample a variety of delicacies from the extensive sweet offering. 

A full suite of Harney & Son’s teas, suppliers of London’s Dorchester Hotel and the Ritz Claridges, are available to complement any menu selection.
