$10 million face-lift for PCYC Centres

Announcement posted by WA Police & Community Youth Centres 13 Apr 2015

WA PCYC is poised to start major refurbishments in many of its centres state-wide.
The Federation of Western Australian Police and Community Youth Centres Inc. (WA PCYC) is poised to start major refurbishments in many of its centres state-wide.  The refurbishments are possible thanks to the State Government’s pre-election commitment of $10.25M, resulting from the Peter Browne Review into WA PCYC in December 2012.

WA PCYC CEO, Jock Gillespie says, “This is an exciting and substantial step for WA PCYC in maintaining its footprint state-wide in partnership with the WA Police, supported by the State Government through the Minister for Police.”

This initial works programs for 2014/2015 will be the first allocation of State Government funds and will focus on the following centres:

·       Albany
·       Bunbury (part works with other works planned for the 2015/2016 period)
·       Carnarvon (part works with other works planned for the 2015/2016 period)
·       Gosnells (part works with other works planned for the 2015/2016 period)
·       Kalgoorlie
·       Kensington
·       Midland
·       Rockingham

The upgrades will provide improved and appealing environments for young people and community members, as well as improving working spaces for WA PCYC and WA Police personnel. A project manager will be contracted to support and coordinate the refurbishment program.

Mr Gillespie says, “Our PCYC family has been waiting a long time for this injection of confidence and revitalisation.  Our managers are eagerly waiting for their refurbishments to commence.”

While WA PCYC is an independent, not-for-profit organisation it was established by and has been operating closely with the WA Police for the past 74 years.  PCYC offers two broad youth services to the community: recreational activities and intervention programs and aims to provide a brighter future for young people through direction, development and opportunity.
