Storage software and hardware solution for Australian small to medium business
LEGATO Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: LGTO) today announced an affordable data protection solution, incorporating backup and restore software married to a tape automation product with full support and services, designed for Microsoft users in small and medium enterprises. Legato is a Gold Partner of Microsoft, and the solution will be demonstrated for the first time in Australia at LEGATOs booth at Microsoft Tech.Ed 2003 on 10th-13th August in Brisbane.
LEGATOs NetWorker version 7.0 is at the heart of the solution offering Microsoft Windows users the worlds fastest backup and restore software* together with special modules for Exchange Server and SQL Server users. Quantum adds to the solution a choice of either a tape based Autoloader or automated library for complete data protection. The solution comes with installation and training by system integration company, ENSTOR Pty Ltd
Traditionally smaller businesses using Microsoft Windows have not had an affordable data protection solution available to them, said Stephen Lloyd-Jones, managing director LEGATO Systems Australia. Recent research clearly showed us that smaller businesses are missing out on enterprise standard data protection due to both the complexity of current solutions and the high cost. Now they have available LEGATOs enterprise class NetWorker product and class leading Quantum automation with attractive pricing and install.
Networker version 7.0 protects data on all Windows servers and desktops (as well as UNIX, Linux, OpenVMS, Macintosh and NetWare in DAS, NAS and SAN environments). It protects the critical business data of more than 29,000 enterprises worldwide and is scalable so that the same product applies from the smallest company to the largest enterprise.
Two data protection solutions using LEGATO NetWorker solutions are offered, firstly NetWorker 7.0 Business Edition for up to eight servers, and Network Edition for nine or more servers. Both include a module for Microsoft Exchange Server enabling administrators to perform on-line backups of Exchange hosted on Windows NT or 2000/2003, increasing service levels and reducing management overhead. The Network Edition solution also includes LEGATO NetWorker module for Microsoft SQL Server that provides the application availability business needs in demanding 24/7 environments.
Quantum is delighted to be partnering with LEGATO in this data protection initiative for smaller business, said Emil Kobylarz, managing director APAC for Quantums Storage Solutions Group. By incorporating expandable tape automation with the new NetWorker 7.0 software with its Intelligent Device Management capability and support for Microsofts RSM is a boom for small business. Now they have a tested and approved automation product as part of the total data protection suite.
Quantum has two tape automation products available to suit the version of software offered. For the smaller Business Edition configuration they offer the ATL SuperLoader, a modular, high density autoloader for the workgroup. Initially fitted with either a LTO2 or SDLT320 drive and eight cartridges it can be expanded to 16 cartridges to meet future data needs. Maximum capacity is 3.2 TB native using LTO2 drives. For the larger Network Edition configuration Quantum is supplying the award winning M1500 series library. This modular system fitted again with either two LTO2 or SDLT320 drives houses up to 25 cartridge slots for a native capacity of 5.0 TB. Individual M1500 libraries can be stacked together to give over 20TB of storage with six drives.
LEGATO is supplying the data protection solution via system integration and storage solution company, ENSTOR. They will supply the solution direct to the user complete with installation service and data protection bootcamp training in enterprise backup, ensuring smaller users understand data protection policies and procedures needed within their company.
"Smaller businesses now have access to affordable enterprise class data protection," said Ken Wood, marketing & sales director for ENSTOR. "We're delivering best-practice systems for tape backup and disaster recovery that are tailored to suit the needs and budgets of SME's, they can use the same software, tape technology, processes and training that our largest customers use to protect hundreds of servers."
Commenting on behalf of Microsoft, Michael Leworthy, Windows Server 2003 product manager said, smaller businesses have an increasing need to not only store their valuable data, but also meet government, taxation and other regulatory compliance regulations. By tailoring a specific low-cost and fully supported data protection solution based on the Windows platform, LEGATO and its partners are to be congratulated. It is critical that smaller businesses understand the value of the data they are generating as well as the need to meet Government, taxation and other regulatory compliance regulations. By tailoring a specific low-cost and fully supported data protection solution for Windows products, LEGATO and its partners are to be congratulated.
