Social Media Marketing Trends That You Need To Be Aware Of

Announcement posted by CMee 24 Jun 2015

If your business is not using social media marketing to deliver your message, then you are being left out. At present, almost 90% of New Zealanders are online and over 70% of Kiwis over the age of 18 are actively using Facebook according to CMee, an advertising agency in Auckland. Here are some online trends that you should take into account when preparing your social media campaign:

Visual content is trumping written content.

This is a trend that social media observers have been noticing for some time. Visual ways of delivering a message such as infographics and videos are more popular with social media users, and these sites have, in turn, been adjusting to accommodate them. For example, Twitter has released an update to its newsfeeds that previews images.

Original content sites are reaching a larger audiences than content curation sites.

Sites that offer original content such as videos, images and infographics will be more popular than those that simply curate and share content from all over the web. In addition, these sites will be more search engine-friendly as search algorithms increasingly favour original content.

Instagram will continue to see explosive growth.

At present, on any given month, Instagram has over 300 active users. On a daily basis, there are over 75 million active users. In New Zealand, as of August 2013, there are 218,000 active users who use Instagram to not only share images of products and brands but to discover new products and brands as well.

Google+ is catching up to Facebook.

Among social media sites, Google+ has recorded the highest number of users with 359 million after Facebook with 1.2 billion. In New Zealand 8% of active online users use Google+. The popularity of Google+ can also be explained by businesses and marketers flocking to it due to its inherent perception that Google prioritises content on its own social media channel.

These trends offer valuable lessons for those involved in social media marketing that can help make their campaigns more effective. For example, you need to set up a Google+ page in addition to a Facebook page in order to maximise your reach. You also need to add more visual content to your marketing activities.
