ISACA Webinar, Securing Smart Devices, Focuses on Protecting Enterprises

Announcement posted by ICON International Communications 26 Jun 2015

Sydney, NSW (26 June 2015) — For security practitioners around the world, the proliferation of the Internet of Things introduces many complexities that can strain enterprise security and infrastructures. To help professionals ensure their enterprises are protected, global IT association ISACA is offering a free webinar, Securing Smart Devices: Cybersecurity in the Age of the Internet of Things, from today.

According to ISACA’s 2014 IT Risk/Reward Barometer, locally nearly two-thirds of people’s wish lists include connected devices (64%). And, 37% of ANZ respondents say their organisation has plans in place to leverage the Internet of Things or expects to create plans in the next 12 months. However, the majority is not ready for such things as wearable technology in the workplace. More than half (56%) say their “bring your own device” (BYOD) policy does not address wearables and a further 35% do not even have a BYOD policy in place.

“With the increase of connected devices, which includes anything from smoke detectors to thermostats to wearable devices that employees are bringing in, businesses need to be aware of all of the connected entry points into the enterprise,” said Christos K. Dimitriadis, Ph.D.,CISA, CISM, CRISC, international president of ISACA and group director of Information Security for INTRALOT. “Enterprises need to be prepared so they can take advantage of these great technologies, but remain as secure as possible.”

The one-hour webinar will be presented in a roundtable format including:

·         Scott Morrison, senior vice president and a distinguished engineer at CA Technologies

·         Chris Poulin, research strategist with IBM’s X-Force

·         Gunnar Peterson, founder and principle of Arctec Group and visiting scientist at Carnegie Mellon

Information and registration is at: www.isaca.org/webinars. Participants can earn one free continuing professional education (CPE) credit for attending the webinar, which is sponsored by CA Technologies.
