Chris Frame speaks to Sarah Kanowski on ABC Conversations.

On the eve of the 175th anniversary of scheduled ocean liner voyages, Chris Frame tells Sarah Kanowski ocean liners changed the world. Chris Frame, Australian Maritime Historian and author of ten books about Ocean Liners talks on ABC's acclaimed "Conversations" programme about the history of the ocean liner, and the impact these ships had on world events.

From the golden age of transatlantic crossings, to the crucial role of these ships in wartime, Chris Frame says ocean liners changed the world. Liners were used to test and trial technologies including wireless radios, electricity, lighting, refrigeration, and turbine and diesel engines.

Chris spends as much time as he possibly can on the ocean and has lost count of the number of voyages he's made. But the magic of that first step on the gangway is for him, as strong as ever.

Chris Frame and Rachelle Cross have recently published "175 Years of Cunard" as well as "A Photographic History of P&O Cruises", the lattter co-authored with archivists Rob Henderson and Doug Cremer.
