Australia’s first app-building workshop for women entrepreneurs. Now in its 3rd successful year!

Announcement posted by TiE Sydney 16 Jul 2015

TiE Women have built on the success of Create-a-thon preparing for its 3rd event starting this Friday.

SYDNEY: 16 July 2015 – Consumers now spend more time consuming digital content via smartphones and tablet apps than they do via surfing the web — either on a smartphone or on the desktop.

The average U.S. smartphone user now spends 88 percent of his or her time when using a mobile phone within an app and just 12 percent using the web browser. To give women an opportunity to be in this revolution TiE Sydney is again running Create-a-thon, an intensive workshop specifically tailored for non-technical women entrepreneurs to go through an intensive experience to pitch for and draw up their app.

Women install 40% more apps than men and spend 87% more (Venturebeat.com). That is a great opportunity for apps that appeal to this market. Create-a-thon is a workshop to help women get the ideas out of their heads and into the world.

This intensive 3 day workshop brings successful non tech women entrepreneurs into the app development eco system. To apply visit www.tie-women.org.au.

Create-a-thon is proudly sponsored and supported by Commonwealth Bank, Hatching Labs, Leaders in Heels, oDesk or now Upwork, Fishburners, Women as Entrepreneurs, the Velvet Onion and Heads over Heels.

Considering that women account for 85 per cent of app purchases, bringing entrepreneurs into the app development eco-system looked like the perfect powerhouse for creative innovation.

Participants are given a crash course on app building, fundamentals of designing, marketing, business validation and investment pitching. Many will finish ready to take their app ideas to market with the confidence and skills obtained from the workshop.

The three-day workshop, culminates in a pitching competition prizes are awarded to the winning concept.

There is an extensive line up of speakers who are all seasoned app entrepreneurs –

Fiona Anson, Co-Founder & Director, Workible. Kristine Howard, Canva. Ben Levi, Renting Smart. Tara O'Connell, The Baby Diaries. Natasha Rawlings, CEO,  Heads over Heels, and Nic Wright Founder, AppInstruct, Mora Gago, Business Analyst, Empire One and other critical professionals important in the App building space - Robyn Heard, Senior Associate, Patent Attorney, Griffith Hack, and Katie Prendergast City Manager, oDesk
