National computing student conference to be held at University of Queensland

Brisbane, Australia - 27 July 2015

CompCon Incorporated and UQ Robotics have announced that CompCon 2015, a national conference for students in computer science and information technology disciplines, will be held at the University of Queensland from 3-5 October.

The presentations at CompCon will include a wide variety of talks and workshops covering all aspects of computing practice and research, including areas which students don’t traditionally cover in the university curriculum.

Following on from the highly successful inaugural CompCon event at the Australian National University in 2013, which attracted 136 students from 17 universities and educational institutions, the organisers are hoping for attendance of up to 400 delegates from across Australia.

CompCon 2015 will be hosted in conjunction with UQ Robotics, a club which connects a wide variety of UQ students with an interest in technology. Conference convenor Peter Phillpotts, a 4th year computer science student at UQ, said “I would really encourage all computing students to come along – from students just starting, through to those nearly graduating. There is lots to experience – great talks, workshops and demonstrations – not to mention the chance to build networks with other students, researchers and industry professionals.”

Andrew Donnellan, convenor of CompCon 2013 and a recent computer science graduate of the ANU, said: “We’re very excited to see CompCon continue in 2015. We got off to a good start in 2013, and we’re hoping CompCon 2015 will firmly establish CompCon as an important event for years to come.”

The Call for Presentations is open until 31 August, and conference registrations and applications for the travel scholarship program will be opening shortly.
