Association of Building Consultants welcomes Peter Ewen as new President

Announcement posted by Leverage PR 12 Aug 2015

The Association of Building Consultants is pleased to announce that Mr Peter Ewen has been elected as its new President following its recent AGM.

Mr Ewen replaces long-serving President, Mr David Murray, who has been in the organisation’s top role for more than decade and still remains an active member of the Association’s Executive Committee.

“It is appropriate to acknowledge outgoing President David Murray for his dedication and commitment to the Association that spans over many years, and I look forward to continuing to work with him in support of the organisation,” Mr Ewen said.

“David has helped to raise the profile of the Association, ensured further development of skills and knowledge of members through a continuing professional development program that sets a national benchmark, and acted as spokesperson in various advocacy issues such as swimming pool safety, building indemnity insurance and licensing issues,” he said.

“He has also been a consistent contributor of technical articles for the website, ensured the active targeting of new members and created a software program for building inspections which is widely used in the local industry.”

Mr Ewen said he was looking forward to tackling his new role, and building on efforts to raise the Association’s profile and attract new membership.

“The Association of Building Consultants is the leading South Australian membership organisation for independent building consultants, and I am proud to support such a talented range of specialists and consultants,” Mr Ewen said.

“Buying a home is the biggest purchase most of us will ever make, and whether you’re a first homebuyer, or investing in property, having a building inspection done by an experienced building consultant who has been endorsed through a peer review process will assist in making an informed purchase decision and offer peace of mind,” he said.

“A building inspection is not just about highlighting potentially devastating problems, but also provides an assessment on what ongoing maintenance may be needed and the extent of potential future expenses.”

Mr Ewen has spent the bulk of his working career in the building industry and has had his own General Builders' Licence for more than 25 years. He is also owner of Chase Contracting- a Norwood-based building consultancy established in 1988 that specialises in pre-purchase and pre-auction building inspections, as well as new build inspection and progress reporting.

In addition to being a HIA member, Mr Ewen is also a member of Master Builders South Australia, and has previously been selected as a judge in the annual the Master Builders Excellence Awards.
