My Cubby Cubby Houses Cater To Australian Kids

Announcement posted by My Cubby 20 Aug 2015

According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, a quarter of all Australian children are overweight or obese and for Aussie parents it is so important that they do what they can to help stop this trend.  There are so many known benefits to having healthier lifestyles with better nutrition, more physical activity and enough sleep for everyone, and encouraging active outdoor play for children is fantastic for better sleep. Not only does it get them outdoors and active, it means less television. Studies have shown that more than 1-2 hours of screen time per day is detrimental, not only because it takes away from active play time but because it makes it harder for children to get enough quality sleep.

This is where My Cubby cubby houses come in. Their vision of cubby houses are fun and laughter, with lots of different play spaces to help kids’ imaginations grow and their cubbies do a brilliant job at keeping kids physically and mentally active due to the different levels of play space. So whilst kids are just having a brilliant time playing, they are actually being super healthy without knowing it.

It is all very well lugging the kids down to the local playground, which is certainly better than having them inside all day watching TV or playing on their tablets or phones, but the modern playground can be a bit boring for kids, in this super politically correct world. The bright-coloured, safety-engineered plastic of cookie-cutter prefabricated jungle gyms can’t make up for the thrilling fun of admittedly rickety seesaws, slick metal slides that burned on sunny days, and super-fast merry-go-rounds. And that’s terrible for kids.

As was recently reported on the mentalfloss website, “Scientists have found that playing is integral to developing a healthy brain and body. One 2011 study from a pair of Norwegian psychologists concluded that taking risks (and overcoming them) during play is an important part of child development, and that preventing children from encountering risks may lead them to develop anxiety. Thus, playgrounds where children can climb high, spin fast, and potentially hurt themselves aren’t just more fun—they’re better for childhood development. A diverse range of playground activities is also important to keep kids active, which improves motor skills [PDF] and combats childhood obesity.”

In saying this, safety is vital in the design and making of My Cubby cubbies, right down to the smallest detail like changing the gradient of the steps by just a few degrees to make children less likely to fall, all of which make My Cubby one of the most popular cubbies in Australia today.
