Announcement posted by XCERIO Digital Skills Institute 20 Aug 2015

Student Calvin Hui from Botany Downs Secondary College recently represented New Zealand at Adobe Certified Associate (ACA) World Championship, placing 7th out of 88,000 entries.

20 August 2015- Global Certification ProviderCertiport (a Pearson VUE Company) and Adobe recently sponsored the ACA World Championship and Room to Read served as the client for student entries in Dallas, Texas from 9-12 August 2015.

The third annual ACA World Championship attracted more than 88,000 entries in total. Students between the ages of 13-22 were judged on their creative and technical skills, as well as their ability to take and follow instructions and communication from the client, and implement Room to Read's vision and message.

"We see increasing demand for digital skills worldwide, and the ACA World Championship promotes those skills and gives students an outlet to inspire creativity,” said Bob Whelan, president and chief executive officer for Pearson VUE. "The number of entries increased in the competition’s third year as students realised the benefits of earning Adobe Certified Associate certification to validate in-demand digital design skills.”

Richard Gordon, Managing Director of local leading Digital Skills Institute XCERIO who hosts the National Championship is supportive of the global opportunity presented to New Zealand students. “Becoming ACA certified and from that certification earning a place to compete against the best Student Adobe competitors across the world and then placing 7th is something all students should have the opportunity to pursue. There is no doubt in my mind that certification opens doors and opportunities which students may never have ever dreamt of. Whether it be to pursue more formal learning through universities or Polytechnics or adding an ACA Certification badge to resumes, certification can and does have an impact on a students’ lives.”

ACA place getter Calvin Hui agrees, “This experience has allowed me to recognise the level of my Adobe skills compared to others my age from across the world and from this reinforces my decision to continue my education in graphic design, through pursuing university qualifications and entering in further competitions.”

Next year, Certiport will host the 2016 Adobe Certified Associate World Championship in Orlando, Florida. Locally, New Zealand students aged between the ages of 13-22 who pass an ACA Certification in Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign may be eligible to represent New Zealand at the World Championships.
