Qingdao, the Latest International-Standard Hospital in China’s Largest Foreign-Invested Healthcare Provider Group, to Deploy Shared Electronic Medical Record

BEIJING, September 2, 2015 – InterSystems, a global leader in software for connected healthcare, today announced that Qingdao United Family Hospital (QDU), part of the United Family Healthcare (UFH) group,  has deployed the InterSystems TrakCare® unified healthcare information system, delivering the benefits of a shared electronic medical record and supporting UFH’s rapid expansion in China.

The new QDU Hospital will rely on TrakCare to support its mission to deliver international-standard outpatient and inpatient medical services to Chinese and expatriate patients in the port city of Qingdao, located between Beijing and Shanghai, and the greater Shandong area.

InterSystems has helped UFH, China’s largest foreign-invested healthcare provider group,to constantly expand TrakCare deployment across its growing medical care network. InterSystems first implemented TrakCare at the Guangzhou United clinic in 2009 and in UFH’s Shanghai hospital and clinics in 2010. The group’s Beijing clinics completed deployment in 2011.

InterSystems also provides training and support to help UFH engage staff in system implementations and ensure clinical adoption, contributing to TrakCare deployments at Tianjin UFH in 2011 and at Beijing United Family Rehabilitation Hospital in 2013.

TrakCare brings clinical value to UFH

InterSystems brings value to UFH not only by supporting its rapid expansion, but also providing advanced clinical functionality required by medical personnel to help ensure the best and safest patient care.  This helps to attract high-quality medical personnel to UFH.

UFH has a shared electronic medical record running on a single TrakCare database, which gives clinicians immediate access to patient records – including emergency care cases – at any UFH hospital or clinic.

Patients are clearly identified through a master patient index, all modifications to patient records are audited, and clinicians receive alerts including potential drug interactions and patient allergies. TrakCare also offers data quality control and audit features to support UFH’s Joint Commission International (JCI) quality accreditation.

The new QDU Hospital has implemented electronic medication management. Doctors enter drug orders electronically through TrakCare, and these are automatically sent to the pharmacy for review. All dispensing activity and administering of medications to patients is also managed through TrakCare to maximize patient safety.

Clinicians benefit from innovative new developments in TrakCare that present relevant patient data in more meaningful ways.  One example is TrakCare’s Active Clinical Notes, an interactive documentation work-space that allows clinical encounters to be recorded and managed from a single screen within a “problem-oriented” context, contributing to high-quality care in a collaborative care environment.

Centralized system deployment reduces costs and improves customer service

Deployed centrally by UFH in Beijing, TrakCare provides centralized management and appointment scheduling services to patients wherever they are located and supports multiple languages and currencies. This facilitates high levels of customer service and allows UFH to manage workloads across its healthcare network.

Centralized deployment reduces UFH’s administration costs, supporting visibility and management of operations across all its healthcare facilities. It speeds the implementation of TrakCare at new hospitals and clinics while still providing the ability to configure local settings when required.

The system also supports the integration and standardization of care processes and helps optimize processes. TrakCare is built on a health informatics platform with the ability to run analytics across the UFH group or drill down into a single healthcare facility or department to improve operational efficiencies.

Dr. Jenny Shao, Health Information System Director at UFH, and Dr. Masoud Afnan, Chief Medical Officer at UFH, will share their EMR journey at HIMSS AsiaPac15 in Singapore on September 9th.
