“Maintaining your new home matters”: Perth home builders

Announcement posted by Summit New Homes 04 Sep 2015

Maintaining your house will help ensure you protect your warranty rights and make sure your home can be enjoyed for many years. Here are our top tips to keep your house in good condition.

1.Showers
Never use steel wool or scouring pads on shower enclosure metal – it removes the protective finish and can leave unsightly scratches.

2.Bathroom tiles
Use a grout sealer to make the grout more resistant to stains, and inspect for grout cracks frequently.

3.Heating or cooling systems
Change or wash the filters every three months.

4.Gutters & downpipes
Before winter each year, clear the perimeter drains and gutters and inspect the condition of flashing (the material that covers joints, skylights, etc.).

5.Garage doors
Oil the moving parts of your garage doors every three months.

6.Hardwood floors
Timber floors without a polyurethane finish should be waxed periodically.

7.Roof
A qualified roofer should inspect your roof every three years.

8.Windows
If water gets into window frames they can rot. Check for any cracks and peeling paint.

9.Exterior
Don’t plant right up against walls – keep everything 15 to 20cm away to avoid rotting and moisture-related issues.

10.Kitchen
Clean the filters on the rangehood as build up of grease can lead to a fire.
