SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA – 23 September 2015 – Sharp Corporation of Australia announces a breakthrough in capacitive touch-panel technology with the 80-inch BIG PAD PN-80TC3 - designed to rethink ways to share ideas and information.   Create interactive presentations, start lively discussions, and conduct paperless meetings in both business and educational settings thanks to the 10-point feather light touch screen and connectivity options that allow up to 50 simultaneous connections to mobile devices.

Conducting a presentation using the PN-80TC3 provides an unparalleled level of interactivity thanks to Sharp’s Touch Display Link 2.0 meeting support application, available for Apple iOS, Android and Windows devices. By connecting to the host BIG PAD screen, up to 50 simultaneous participants can see a real-time duplication of what is being displayed - complete with any handwritten notes as they are being created. Files can be sent from connected devices to the main screen to be used as meeting materials including any images captured via phone and tablet cameras. After a meeting, content written on-screen can then be saved and sent to all connected devices as a meeting record. The screen can also be wirelessly connected to MFC devices to scan documents to the screen or print a snapshot of the presentation including any notes.

“Enabling innovative collaboration opportunities is the primary focus for the new BIG PAD PN-80TC3”, said Halim Saliman, Senior Product Manager at Sharp Corporation of Australia.  “Connecting 50 users at once makes it a perfect learning tool in the classroom with teachers and students sharing and creating like never before.  When used in an office, it can transform presentations and streamline communications initiatives.”

The 80 inch panel of the BIG PAD PN-80TC3 uses capacitive touch technology, a first for the Sharp interactive whiteboard range.  Traditional smaller capacitive touch screens rely on using an Indium Tin Oxide (ITO) coated layer between the glass substrates to detect the position of the pen or finger of the user.  However, at large screen sizes, ITO coatings are not sufficient for precise positional measurements. To solve this issue in the past, touch was achieved by using the, less accurate, IR camera method where a mesh of IR beams would detect where the user was pointing.

To enable capacitive touch on an 80 inch screen, Sharp engineers created a new technique using a unique metal mesh to augment the detection process thereby increasing sensitivity and precision. The result is a 10 point touch screen that has no lag time and feels natural to use. Up to four people can also write on the screen at the same time using an included wireless Digitiser Pen.

The BIG PAD is a powerful teaching tool which allows educators to create new learning experiences for their students.  In addition to being able to share curriculum materials across connected devices, the panel can also be written on using the wireless digitiser pens by four students at the same time.  Teachers can use the panel as they would a regular whiteboard and at the end of the lesson send a copy of all notes written on the board to each student in .pdf form.  Using the PN-80TC3 combined with a robust BYOD (bring your own device) strategy, institutions can create truly paperless classrooms and speak to students in a language they understand.

When used in office meetings, the advanced features of PN-80TC3 can be used to create high-impact demonstrations or better communicate the messaging of a presentation.  It also allows for a more collaborative experience as the presenter and participants can work together and better facilitate the flow of ideas.  The BIG PAD can also help decrease office costs as it eliminates the need to print hard copies of notes and since any notes written on screen can be shared, your participants don’t need to take physical notes and you can therefore capture their undivided attention.

The PN-80TC3 comes with a slew of inputs including three HDMI, two D-SUB and one DisplayPort, grouped in two banks each bank with its own USB output for easy integration. The unit also has an additional DisplayPort connector for output as well as a 3.5mm headphone jack plus a USB connector in the pen tray.  It has a native resolution of 1920x1080, a contrast ratio of 4:000:1 and is rated at 200cd/m2 brightness with a 4ms grey to grey refresh response time. Finally, it is capable of reproducing 1064 million colours and has a viewing angle of 176°/176° (H/V).
