Brisbane Grammar School leads the charge in adopting high-speed wireless network

Chooses NETGEAR for flexibility, ease-of-use and competitive pricing

Brisbane Grammar School has proven itself a technology frontrunner by choosing the 802.11a standard wireless option for its networking requirements, enabling students to enjoy the flexibility of mobile computing as well as high-speed internet access.
We are one of the first schools to choose the faster 802.11a wireless standard products, enabling our students to enjoy not only the flexibility and mobility that the wireless solution offers, but also the faster 54 Mbps bandwidth speed that the 802.11a standard offers. This is five times the 10 Mbps speed of the 802.11b offering, explained Brisbane Grammar School director of computing, Dr Tim Solomon.
Brisbane Grammar School, a non-denominational boys school of some 1,400 students in years six to 12, chose networking specialist NETGEARs 802.11a wireless products because the company offered the best and most affordable solution. The solution was installed by NETGEAR integrator Instant IT Pty Ltd.
Students today need internet access because thats where many good resources are, but we prefer them to work co-operatively and they dont all need their own computers, said Solomon. The added flexibility of wireless connection is proving an exciting new supplement to our seven currently existing laboratories.
Two hundred year six and seven students, using 52 computers on mobile trolleys, were the first to trial NETGEARs wireless 802.11a products. We have a number of these trolleys with about 13 computers on each, Solomon explained. The boys work in small groups, so the 10 Mbps speed offered by the 802.11b solution would have been far too limiting for group work. The features offered by NETGEARs 802.11a wireless products therefore made the investment realistic and worthwhile for us.
In the four months that the school has been using NETGEARs 802.11a access points and PC cards, Solomon said he had not had to call on NETGEARs support team even once. Implementation was also quick and easy - just one month, with no hiccups.
We shopped around, said Solomon, but NETGEAR simply had the best and most cost-effective solution on the market.
Brisbane Grammar School will shortly place another 32 wireless connected stations in the secondary school.
