Art exhibition held to raise funds for late artist’s son

This November, North Melbourne’s ‘Space 338’ will host its first ever event when it showcases late artist, Hector Geddes’, works of art. The long-awaited event has been dubbed the ‘Hexibition’ by Mr Geddes’ loved ones.

Held on Friday, 13th November from 2pm to 9pm at Space 338 (located at 338 Queensberry Street in North Melbourne), Hexibition will see around 70 pieces of Mr Geddes’ art on-show with an estimated 50 available for sale with all proceeds being donated to Hec’s estate which was left to his son, Phil.

“Hec, as he was commonly known, always loved art. He was a natural talent and painting was one of the few true consistencies in his life,” said Keran Wicks.

Ms Wicks shared a close bond with Mr Geddes who was her first employee when she started her own business, The Network Group, in 1993. Mr Geddes eventually shared Ms Wicks’ Brunswickhouse where he remained until he passed away in 2014.

“Hec would spend all weekend painting and even went to art classes when he was 60. He led a colourful life and was useless at school. Proof of this can be found with one of the paintings he’d completed in graffiti style – Hec’s version displayed the word as Grafitti,” said Ms Wicks.

“Hec never worried about a single thing in life – he was outgoing, gregarious and would give someone a shirt off his back if they needed it. All he ever truly worried about was making sure his son Phil was able to look after himself as he aged and that he was secure.”

Hec and his wife Kay adopted Phil when he was 18 months old knowing he was born with cerebral palsy and that he may never walk. Now 40-years-old, Phil manages quite well but is unable to work due to his disorder and lives on a disability pension.

Ms Wicks said it was time for Mr Geddes’ talent to be on-show for all to see and to be shared with art lovers.

Hexibition is open to all with a $5 donation for entry to cover the food and drinks supplied. Signage will direct those interested through to Space 338.
