Australian app, Safe Travels, aims to allay parent's Schoolies fears

Announcement posted by Trecose 16 Nov 2015

Stay in touch with your teenagers as they travel for Schoolies celebrations

It is well documented that parents have many concerns for the safety of their teenagers when celebrating the completion of high school, with 93% percent of recently surveyed parents expressing concern about how Schoolies is celebrated. (McCrindle 2014)

Safe Travels, a new app developed in Australia, aims to help parents breathe easier as their children head off to increasingly far-flung destinations such as Bali, Vanuatu, and Fiji. The app allows travellers to upload an emergency profile with emergency contacts, medical and allergy history plus medication information. Most importantly for travellers this information is accessible when offline and syncs the latest information when you connect to the internet.

SafeTravels launched in August 2014 and has been downloaded 5,000 times in 65 countries. We think it is one of the best insurances available for travelling teens and will provide parents with peace of mind during this exciting holiday period.

To accompany the peace of mind that Safe Travels provides parents, we also suggest the following travel safety tips for young travellers.

Make a plan for contact: Before your child departs for the life changing trip, make plans for how to stay in contact including scheduling regular phone check-ins. Skype is a great option for video calls.

Don't forget travel insurance: Keep worries at bay and invest in some travel insurance for overseas trips. You can upload the details to the Safe Travels app for safe keeping.

Avoid taking valuables: Leave unnecessary items at home - that way you can have more fun and not worry about your belongings!

Keep important addresses and contact details at hand: If you are travelling with a big group and visiting multiple locations, keep all the details handy. Safe Travels is great for storing all the important details needed for a fun trip with friends

Don't lose your tickets: When travelling overseas you are sure to check out some sights. Upload your tickets to SafeTravels as the backup.

Let others know where you are: Load your itinerary to the Safe Travels app and keep others informed of your movements. Register at smartraveller.gov.au/ as well.

Safe Travels founder, Chris Reed, is available for interviews.

If you would be interested in speaking with him or with one of our users about their experience with the app I'd be delighted to put you in touch.
