18th November, Sydney, NSW: The New South Wales government intends to develop crucial state infrastructure over the next four years in vital areas such as transport and urban renewal.

With Sydney’s population expected to grow by 1.6 million people over the next two decades, the New South Wales government is securing the state’s future with the construction of the Sydney Metro project, Australia’s largest public transport project.

The Sydney Metro will consequentially cut train times by up to ten minutes on most lines, radically transforming Sydney’s rail network with the addition of new stations, increased reliability and Australia’s first European style subway system.

The project is expected to increase the number of trains entering Sydney CBD from 120, to nearly 200 trains during peak hour traffic, improving economic opportunity and changing the way people utilise the state’s public transport network.

While construction of the Sydney Metro project is not set to be entirely complete by 2024, Sydney Metro Northwest is expected to open in 2019, with more than half of all tunnelling complete on the project.

In addition, a new train station is expected to be built at the site of the Barangaroo urban renewal on Sydney Harbour’s edge, which aims to redefine over 22 hectares of public domain, with extensive attention placed on retail and commercial developments.

The precinct will be split up into three areas: Barangaroo South, Barangaroo Central and Barangaroo Reserve, providing space for over 24,000 permanent jobs, generating approximately $2 billion per annum towards the New South Wales economy.

Other urban renewal developments taking place across the state include the Green Square Urban Renewal Project, the Western Sydney Infrastructure Plan, as well as the Parramatta North Urban Renewal Program, which are all under the control of UrbanGrowth NSW, an independent organization setup to streamline urban renewal developments.

The New South Wales government has placed an integral focus on redeveloping the Western portion of the state with the Western Sydney Infrastructure Plan, which involves the injection of an estimated $2.9 billion over the next ten years to implement key infrastructure upgrades, including the development of major road and transport linkages to capitalise on the recently announced plan to build the Western Sydney Airport in Badgerys Creek.

To facilitate in the discussion of these significant projects, private and public sector representatives from a wide range of infrastructure and construction sectors will be gathering at the 7th Annual NSW Major Projects conference to review upcoming infrastructure projects within the region.

Other major developments are taking place within New South Wales including the WestConnex Project, the NorthConnex Project, the Northern Beaches Hospital redevelopment, the Inland Rail development between Melbourne and Brisbane.

The two day conference attracts close to 250 delegates annually and is an opportunity for industry leaders and government officials to share ideas on common challenges and acquire the latest information on major infrastructure projects shaping the development of New South Wales.

The 7th Annual New South Wales Major Projects conference is being held at Doltone House in Hyde Park on the 24th & 25th of November.
