Time to switch to LED downlights with its prices down further

As LED prices drop, it's time to make the switch
A Spanish study has shown that the light emitted by LED bulbs can damage the cells in the retina. Some experts are now calling for a filter to be fitted in the bulbs (file picture)
With the onset of record-breaking temperatures, we sure are glad we’re not baking under hot incandescent/halogen lights here at LOnline  headquarters. Unlike these outdated technologies, LEDs emit no heat from the light source, so they’re perfect for keeping rooms cool and comfortable.

Halogen down lights are especially notorious for increasing room temperatures (not to mention air conditioning costs). That’s why we recommend LED recessed lights such as the PR15 Ultra Thin: a 13 Watt fixture of up to 484 lumens. The PR15 is dimmable and comes with a high quality diffuser to eliminate hot spots.

For recessed fixtures, we carry a full line of LED down light bulbs. At 2 inches wide, the Illum 2.0 MR-11 is one of the smallest lights we carry. It’s a super efficient 2.5 Watt replacement for a 20 Watt halogen thanks to the single Cree XP-G chip inside. A great low-temperature solution for low-voltage systems.

On the opposite side of the size scale is the 7.5” Ceiling LED light bulb with its E40 mogul base. Also built with the XP-G, this 45 Watt bulb replaces a 400 Watt halogen! Just thinking about the heat from a 400 Watt halogen makes us sweat.

Call us for quantity pricing and answers to any technical questions you might have. After all, we want you to feel as comfortable investing in LED lights as you feel relaxing underneath them!

In New York Times Small Business this week, Tom Szaky explores different types of sustainability measures a group may choose to take, depending on the scope and scale of their plan. The adoption of LED light bulbs is characterized as one of many actions that are “easy” and can benefit virtually any company as it unequivocally saves money on electricity and adds value to a building.

Whether or not a company chooses to market their efficient new LED lighting system and other energy improvements may depend on the type of product or service they provide. Szaky indicates that in food service, for example, customers may appreciate learning that food waste and packaging is composted, because it is a tangible part of the dining experience. If the service is more abstract – like storage or parking – then energy-related measures play a greater role in the customer’s buying conscience.

From customers who’ve discretely adopted our LED downlights in their brick and mortar stores, to companies that have taken out press releases to tout their new energy-saving systems, a wide range of green business initiatives can be tailor-made for your organization. It’s key to make sure the measure can be seen through to completion without gaping holes or eco-contradictions (Szaky admits that his TerraCycle co-workers were slow to fully “get” recycling, even though the practice is so intrinsic to their product) and, if applicable, that it fits the message your group wants to convey. Where do LED lights fit into your green business plan?
