Compuware appoints Richard Walford to target J2EE markets

Announcement posted by Bass PR 06 Aug 2003

Compuware Asia-Pacific has appointed Richard Walford as Product Line Sales Director for UNIFACE and OptimalJ covering the Asia-Pacific region.

Richard will be responsible for building Compuware into Australia's number one supplier of application development tools. His strategy for achieving this will be to support the sales and marketing teams in helping customers to understand the extraordinary value of Compuware's offering, drive business development opportunities with partners and help position Compuware's wide ranging technical and industry expertise to as broad an audience as possible.

Richard began his tenure with Compuware in 1994; his most recent role being head of Compuware's European Development Centre in Amsterdam. In addition to leading the team working on the UNIFACE product line, he was instrumental in developing Compuware's Java application development product - OptimalJ - having led the team of engineers who created it. OptimalJ is Compuware's advanced development environment for J2EE applications.

"Compuware has a great presence in the mainframe tools market and increasingly so in the Microsoft world. My role is to drive up Compuware's share of the Java application development market to match and then exceed our mainframe capabilities. Compuware will be the supplier of choice for organisations building enterprise applications for the J2EE platform." said Richard. "My experience at the Development Centre and in my previous marketing, product management and development roles has given me the necessary business expertise and technical knowledge to achieve this".

John Debrincat, Senior Vice President, Compuware Asia Pacific, welcomed Richard to his new role saying, "As the man behind OptimalJ, Richard has made a significant contribution to Compuware's product offering. His mix of technical and business experience is a tremendous asset and we are excited about the strength he gives our offering to the Java market".

Richard joined Compuware Europe as a project manager before taking on roles in software production and product development focussed on UNIFACE, Compuware's 4GL application development tool. Prior to joining Compuware Europe, Richard was principal consultant at Metier Management Systems in the UK.
