Fujitsu Appointed to NZ Government Telecommunications-as-a-Service Panel

Announcement posted by Fujitsu Australia Limited 20 Jan 2016

Fujitsu brings unified communications and telecommunications service aggregation to streamline Government-wide operations and service
News facts:
  • Fujitsu GoCommunicate Unified Communications service based on Microsoft Skype for Business and pay     monthly per user model
  • Fujitsu brings end-to-end ICT capability to NZ Government Panels

Wellington, 20 January 2016.  Fujitsu is delighted to have been one of the first providers appointed to the New Zealand Government Telecommunications-as-a-Service (TaaS) panel to provide leading edge Unified Communications and overarching Service Aggregation of telecommunications providers.

With the launch of TaaS, government agencies are now able to use Fujitsu’s mature Service Aggregation capability to manage and coordinate their telecommunication providers, enabling agencies to select the best providers in each area while receiving a coordinated and seamless service. This will help break the stranglehold of the major telecommunications providers and promotes greater competition and innovation for the New Zealand market.

Fujitsu partnered with its global partner, Microsoft, to create GoCommunicate, a Government Unified Communications service based on Microsoft’s Skype for Business solution. In a move which sees the end of costly traditional telephone systems, Fujitsu’s GoCommunicate gives agencies an integrated service that brings together IT and communications in a simple monthly fee per user model.

This latest appointment complements Fujitsu’s strong position as an end-to-end ICT provider to the New Zealand Government. Fujitsu is already a leading provider on the Government’s IT Managed Services (ITMS) and Desktop-as-a-Service (DaaS) panels. Under the very successful ITMS panel many major government agencies already use Fujitsu’s Service Aggregation capability for managing their entire ICT vendor environment.

“With the recently updated ITMS service, GoDaaS, and now the new TaaS panel agencies have easy access to an end-to-end ICT service from Fujitsu, without the overheads of a lengthy and expensive procurement process,” said Mike Bullock, General Manager of Sales for Fujitsu New Zealand. “These panels reduce the cost for both the industry and agencies, enabling Government to focus its efforts on using technology to engage with citizens and businesses, and making the public sector more efficient and faster moving.”

The rapid convergence of IT and telecommunications hasn’t always been reflected in the industry commercial models, with traditional telecommunications companies dominating voice calling services, despite the meteoric rise of new-world services such as Skype at home. GoCommunicate brings the familiarity of Skype into the business world and enables seamless communications between citizens and government agencies.

Stuart Stitt, Managing Director, Fujitsu New Zealand, said: “With our highly beneficial commercial model, GoCommunicate helps connect Government, citizens and businesses, using a common and familiar tool. Citizens and businesses will now be able to use Skype to message, talk to and video call Government agencies.”
