Cooking & Entertaining On The Road

Good food, entertaining and outdoor living are quintessential elements of the Australian way of life.  And, with the modern design of current motorhomes and caravans, you don’t need to be tied to your home to enjoy these pleasures.

Matt Sears from Albury Wodonga RV World advised that outdoor entertaining and being able to share a meal and socialise with friends was the greatest aspect of the caravanning way of life.

He said, “The thing people love the most about caravanning and camping is the social aspect. You can spend time with family, old friends and even make some new friends too.

“Caravans and motorhomes offer so many modern conveniences which allow travellers to be able to still enjoy cooking and entertaining.”

Here are Matt’s top tips for enjoying cooking and outdoor entertaining when you are on the road:

Maximise Space.  The more modern day motorhomes maximise space with essential items such as microwaves, fridges and cooktops incorporate into a sleek and functional design. Create extra bench or serving space by looking at after market accessories such as wall mounted picnic tables and use portable fridge / freezers to allow you to store additional cold items.

Invest In Clever Kitchen Accessories.  Look for products like a thermomix or a magic bullet that have multiple purposes and will save you having to find space for ten other accessories.  A thermomix might be an expensive purchase but there are plenty of other similar gadgets on the market that will grind, blend, steam, cook, churn and even chop for you!  Think of the storage and bench space you will save.

Get Organised.  Plan you meals for the week ahead of time so that you can ensure you don’t overbuy groceries that eat into your storage space.  Where possible try to opt for same failsafe perishables which won’t require cold storage and if you do buy fresh, why not research if there are any produce markets in the area? You’ll be supporting local growers and will have a fun day out also.

Put Some Light On The Situation.  If you are planning on dining outdoors and enjoy your surrounds, then look at LED lights for your awning.  They’re inexpensive and easy to install and will allow you to comfortably cook and dine outside.
