Aussie start-up ready to tackle 2016 fantasy football season with evolutionary new concept

Announcement posted by Sports Fantasy Free Pty Limited 04 Feb 2016

“All the fun and thrills of daily fantasy sport, for free, with daily and major prizes – people just love it,” Daniel Simic, Founder.

ZETLAND, NSW (February 4, 2016) – An Australian fantasy sports company may have found the key to unlocking the next stage in the evolution of one of the world’s fastest growing industries.

The rise of fantasy sports from occasional office water-cooler conversation topic to burgeoning multi-billion dollar global juggernaut has resulted in myriad companies going off in search of the industry’s next great innovation.

If the recent success of Sydney-based startup Sports Fantasy Free is any indication that search may be over.

“The response to our Big Bash campaign was just incredible,” said Daniel Simic, founder of Sports Fantasy Free, “We were amazed, we still are amazed at the numbers we got.”

By engaging consumers on social media and promotion through broadcast partners Triple M, SEN and CricHQ, Sports Fantasy Free was able to attract thousands of sign-ups during the short five-week span.

Fantasy sport is based on translating what professional sports people do in real life into points in a game – making watching sports even more exciting. Sports Fantasy Free enables fans to be a coach for a day by selecting favourite players and assembling their "fantasy team" to compete against other fans.

Using a competition format grounded in the increasingly popular “Daily Fantasy” concept, Sports Fantasy Free added an additional twist offering free entry into these challenges with the chance to win prizes.

“We gave players the best of both worlds,” Simic said, “All the fun and thrills of daily fantasy sport, for free, with daily and major prizes.”

“The $20,000 BBL05 prize pool was made up primarily of Sony digital/electronic products with the overall winner walking away with a home sports entertainment package.”

While some of the campaign’s success could be attributed to the massive increase in popularity of the Big Bash League itself, Simic said it was the new ideas worked into an existing popular concept that created the perfect formula.

“We found it was not just the hard-core fantasy players who got into it, we had many signups from the other end of the sporting spectrum – people who love the game and are experiencing fantasy sports for the first time.”

A major ingredient of Sports Fantasy Free’s summer success formula is OneSport.

A robust sports data feed, OneSport is the analytical power that helps Sports Fantasy Free deliver excitement and engagement to sports fans. Thrilled with how the new concept was experienced by users, Simic hinted that the success of the summer was only the beginning for Sports Fantasy Free.

“This winter is going to be huge,” Simic said.

The footy season is fast approaching, if we can get these sort of numbers over the summer imagine what we can do when the Aussie winter footy codes roll around.”

“We’re already in full pre-season mode and seeking sponsorship partners for the 2016 NRL and AFL seasons.

“It is very exciting times ahead.”
