Education Increases Longevity of Family Businesses

Family-owned and operated businesses in Australia are now able to access educational resources specific to their needs via an online platform. And most of them are free.
Insights is a recently launched not-for-profit organisation offering online educational resources for families in business. They aim to encourage conversation, shape the thinking of family businesses and empower family businesses to create a long lasting legacy.
The online resources include:
Case studies and advice from international family businesses – over 400 short videos lasting 3-4 minutes from international (and Australian) business families.
Advice from experts – including advisors, academics and entrepreneurs.
Courses, tutorials and interactive activities – lasting no more than two hours – which will assist your family in overcoming challenges
“70% of Australian businesses are family owned. They very quickly identify that they have unique issues separating them from any other business structures. Put simply, they are constantly juggling family and business dynamics all at once.” said Insights Managing Director, Kim Harland.
“With a small amount of education those families can learn to manage those dynamics very effectively” .
But who has the time take a day or two out of running that business to learn those skills?
Insights resources are designed to enable family businesses to learn at their own pace, engage with the large community of family businesses and access regularly updated tools that are globally relevant.
Research into the positive impact of education in family business is ongoing. One of the global thought leaders in the sector, Ivan Landsberg, PH.D and Academic Director of Family Enterprise at Northwestern University, states that “regardless of the current and historical success of your family business, research has shown that family businesses that continuously learn will be the most enduring.”
