Australian Stock Report Market Wrap Up: Shares’ best week

4 March 2016: SYDNEY -- The Aussie market managed to close higher for the fifth consecutive session today, with the index recording its best week since September.

“Today's gains were once again led by the miners, with the materials sub-index rising 1.4% and almost 8% over the course of the week amid recovering commodity prices,” said Chris Conway, head of research at the Australian Stock Report.

BHP rose 2.4%, Rio gained 1.6% and Fortescue jumped 3.8%.

The banks also had a solid day, despite ASIC confirming it will sue ANZ over rate rigging allegations. ANZ rose 0.9%, losing a bit of its earlier strength, NAB gained 1%, CBA 1.1% and Westpac rose 1.5%.

The ASX200 rose 0.2% to 5090 - a weekly gain of 4.3%.
