Australian Forest Growers National Conference 2016

Announcement posted by Parsec Communications 16 Mar 2016

Sunday 23 to Wednesday 26 October 2016, Launceston, Tasmania

Private forest owners, farmers and land managers will be gathering in Launceston in October for Australia’s major National Forestry Conference run by Australian Forest Growers (AFG).

Dr Kevin Harding, National President said, ‘The Conference helps landholders manage their forests for wood and, at the same time, achieve the wider environmental and social values the community demands.

Now in its 32nd year, the Australian Forest Growers (AFG) conference will feature a keynote speech by Professor Barry Brook, Chair of Environmental Sustainability at the University of Tasmania.

Dr Harding said, ‘Professor Brook has a strong interest in the ecology and sustainable use of forests and can draw on an impressive experience base to provide conference delegates with a challenging perspective on how private forestry can meet society’s expectations for sustainable production.

‘The three-day event is a great opportunity for networking with speakers and exhibitors from Australian and New Zealand.

‘Other internationally recognized pre-eminent speakers, with broad expertise including forest management, are Professor of Environmental Change Biology, David Bowman and Director of the Centre for Environment, Professor Ted Lefroy, both from the University of Tasmania.

‘It’s not all work and no play, with the much sought after National Tree Farmer of the Year award being announced at the conference dinner’, said Dr Harding.

Australian Forest Growers have also arranged a State-wide pre-conference tour.  This popular event adds to the Conference program of two days of presentations, one full day of field tours, plus two specialised half-day tours.
