TEAM HOLIDAY DELIVERS DIGITAL DETOX THIS EASTER FOR FUN-SEEKING KIDS

Announcement posted by Greta Donaldson Publicity 22 Mar 2016

Tech-tired students are getting set for digital detoxes this Easter, with Team Holiday’s day programs and overnight camps - jam-packed with innovative outdoor activities - expanding its Victorian empire.

With the latest research showing excessive screen time is the number-one health concern of kids and teenagers; Team Holiday is proving the perfect formula for school holiday fun.

A five-day Easter adventure for young teens at Phillip Island is the newest addition to the Team Holiday calendar, running from April 4-8 and open to students aged 10-13. But the Team Holiday offerings now also extend to hundreds of other day-long school-holiday activities - at nearly 40 locations across Melbourne, Geelong and Bendigo - for kids aged 5-13.

Proving its reputation as Australia’s premier school holiday program provider, Team Holiday boasts an extraordinary range of activities, from traditional sports and outdoor adventures to the more inventive options like silent discos, bubble soccer and Storm Trooper laser tag. The programs also include workshops on cyber safety, leadership and resilience.

Team Holiday founder, owner and director Sam Hoath says one of the most popular activities is “astronaut training”. This is an inventive combination of boot camp and the French athletic discipline of Parkour, with games including ‘Patient Astronauts’, ‘Cross the Milky Way’, ‘Peg Leg’ and ‘Astronauts vs Aliens’.  “The kids absolutely love astronaut training,” Sam says. “They get to imagine themselves as crew members of a rocket ship, as we run them through a variety of exercises that prepare them for the rigors of space travel.”

Team Holiday’s renowned - and very timely - no-gadget policy is another drawcard. The recent Australian Child Health Poll, conducted by the Royal Children’s Hospital, found excessive screen time was the biggest health worry of Aussie kids. Obesity and a lack of physical exercise were also among the top concerns.

Sam, who is also a fully qualified teacher, says that Team Holiday’s own research backed up these findings: “After surveying hundreds of mums and dads, we discovered that too much screen time was the number-one concern of parents. This was mainly due to it unsociable and inactive behaviours. As a result, we continually look for ways to help promote time spent without the use of these devices.”

The Team Holiday camps, as well as its full-day school holiday programs, are supervised by qualified teachers, with an industry-leading staff-to-student ratio of 1:10. “Our staff are the very best in the business,” Sam says.

The full-day school holiday program runs from Tuesday, March 29 to Friday, April 8, at 31 locations across Melbourne, as well as three in Geelong (Highton, Manifold Heights and Newtown) and two in Bendigo (Maiden Gully and Strathfieldsaye).

This year’s Teen Easter Camp will be held at Phillip Island Adventure Resort, which boasts state-of-the-art facilities, resort-style accommodation, a heated indoor pool and indoor games halls. Outdoor activities include surfing, giant swings, twin flying foxes, canoeing, high ropes and archery. The five-day, four-night camp costs $840 per child, but all families are eligible for a 50 per cent rebate under the Federal Government’s Child Care Rebate scheme. (Families that qualify for the Child Care Benefit may be entitled to an even bigger discount). Team Holiday also provides a pick-up and drop-off service, with meeting points in Aspendale, Bentleigh East, Elwood, the city, Kew, Yarraville and Geelong. Online bookings open February 24.
