It then explains solid timber and how it is divided into softwood and hardwood. Softwoods are from the pine family. They aren’t as strong as hardwoods, aren’t as durable and don’t have the rich, dark colours that hardwoods do. However, they are the easiest timbers to work with and are appropriate for all non-structural indoor projects involving timber.
Hardwoods provide more strength and durability. They also contain the grains and colours that provide the classic timber aesthetic. They are used for most structural projects, though some softwoods and engineered timber have the strength to provide structural support.
