Timber Supplier in Brisbane Provides the Ultimate DIY Timber Guide

This timber supplier in Brisbane makes it easy for their customers to select the best timber for their DIY projects.
Brisbane, QLD, 31 March 2016 - There are a lot of timber suppliers in Brisbane but one in particular consistently goes out of their way to educate their customer base and make it easier for them to understand the process of selecting the right materials for the right job: Narangba Timbers.

Recently, on his company blog, Narangba Timbers owner Jack Kyle provided a guide for DIY enthusiasts to help them select the right timber for various DIY projects. The guide, called “An Overview of Timber for DIY Projects,” explained the various varieties and grades of timber in “plain English” without turning it into a tech manual. It revealed an insider’s viewpoint of why certain timbers are better than others for various projects.

According to Mr Kyle, “We love timber and we wanted to make it easier for DIY enthusiasts to select the right materials. We wanted them to understand the basics of which timbers work the best for which projects. But because most of the DIY enthusiasts we know would rather get busy than spend a lot of time reading, we made it short and easy to understand without a degree in physics.”

The guide covers various varieties of timber. For example, varieties of engineered timber include veneers, plywood, laminated timber and reconstituted timber products. It then explains solid timber and how it is divided into softwood and hardwood. Softwoods are from the pine family. They aren’t as strong as hardwoods, aren’t as durable and don’t have the rich, dark colours that hardwoods do. However, they are the easiest timbers to work with and are appropriate for all non-structural indoor projects involving timber.

Hardwoods provide more strength and durability. They also contain the grains and colours that provide the classic timber aesthetic. They are used for most structural projects, though some softwoods and engineered timber have the strength to provide structural support. Hardwoods come with four durability ratings from 1, which is the most durable, to 4. Narangba Timbers only carries hardwoods with a rating of 1 or 2.

Timber decking and timber flooring are usually completed with hardwood. Merbau is a favourite for timber decking in Brisbane while many different hardwoods are used for timber flooring. Timber fencing is built with CCA treated pine or hardwood. The CCA treatment is necessary to protect against termites. It isn’t appropriate for timber decking or flooring because it can be toxic to both humans and animals with prolonged exposure.

Mr Kyle concluded: “We are glad to provide our readers with a basic guide to selecting timber for their DIY projects. We have a customer service staff that we really feel is second to none in the industry and we feel it is even easier for them to give great customer service to a customer who already has access to some information before talking to them.”
