New Allianz Campaign Urges Australians: Say ‘See Ya Later’ to Expensive Car Insurance

Spot shows people destroying their car insurance bills in imaginative ways
When large bills arrive in the mail, there’s a moment when many of us might be tempted to simply tear them up.
A new campaign from Allianz created by MercerBell encourages Australians to do just that – to say ‘see ya later’ to expensive car insurance and ‘hello’ to a better deal from Allianz.
 
Set to an upbeat ‘ska’ version of the 60s track, ‘See Ya Later Alligator’, the new TV spot shows people destroying their car insurance bills in ever-imaginative ways – one woman puts hers in the blender, a man burns his on the BBQ, while another rides straight over the top of his with the ride-on lawn mower – before saying ‘hello’ to Allianz by calling for a cheaper quote.
 
As well as being one of Australia’s premium insurers, Allianz offers some of the lowest prices on comprehensive car insurance for drivers over 30. MercerBell Executive Creative Director David Bell explains: “The brief was to simply smash a savings message. But we wanted to put a fresh spin on the ‘Ahhh-Allianz’ mnemonic at the same time.”
 
David says that these spots move on from the ‘Ahhhs’ people say after an accident. “Here we’re showing ‘Ahhhs’ of wicked delight as each person destroys their insurance bill, followed by ‘Ahhh’s of relief and satisfaction when they get a cheaper solution from Allianz.”
 
But he says these spots continue to tap into the humanity that’s always at the heart of Allianz advertising. “Once again we’re showing real people in moments we can all relate to. Who hasn’t been tempted to destroy their insurance bill?”
 
The campaign is supported by radio, online banners and YouTube pre-rolls, while the ‘Say hello’ message is being extended to Allianz Home Insurance as well as Allianz Travel Insurance.
