Horizon Power Chooses Qlik to Charge Up Visual Analytics

SYDNEY, Australia – May 3, 2016 – Qlik® (NASDAQ: QLIK), a leader in visual analytics, today announced that Horizon Power, a commercially focused, State Government-owned power company responsible for generating, distributing and retailing electricity in Western Australia, has deployed QlikView® to optimise reporting and improve business performance through self-service visual analytics.

Horizon Power provides high quality, safe and reliable power to about 100,000 residents and 10,000 businesses across regional and remote Western Australia. With such a huge customer base, the company generates a significant amount of data both internally and externally.

Prior to Qlik, Horizon Power utilised a dedicated analytics team with reports being sourced from the IT department. With this system, it often took weeks to generate a report which would then require additional edits from the business team before it was close to the final copy. Horizon Power found that the associated costs with this approach were too high for an organisation of their size and the timeline for reports left much to be desired. Horizon Power’s first phase of Qlik implementation was designed to visualise corporate KPIs and targets and contractor reports to ensure accountability from external parties. As a direct result of the deployment, they have seen a 45 percent cost reduction in report production and 60 percent reduction in delivery time.

“When we first started BI analytics reporting we were committed to IBM Cognos software, but we wanted a solution that had the ability to directly supply reports to relevant stakeholders in the organisation,” said Geoff Pearson, Business Intelligence Coordinator, Horizon Power. “QlikView enables individuals throughout the organisation to generate reports without the intervention of dedicated data analysts or the IT department. This not only reduces the cost and time it takes to deliver reports, but also ensures those reports are always up to date, which is a main area of concern for us.”

The decentralisation of reporting through Qlik has led to efficient, timely information flows. Data is aggregated into a single, accessible platform to ensure users can see the whole story in their data and make better strategic decisions. Horizon Power can now create much of their reporting in near real-time since data digitisation that used to take weeks to complete now takes only hours.

Finance and operations teams have paved the way for Qlik adoption at Horizon Power which now has hundreds of users and counting. Those individuals are able to leverage multiple data streams, many of which are derived from Horizon’s ERP system. Qlik’s intuitive interface also ensures that those employees can correct data inaccuracies or address issues in real-time, often without the need for IT intervention. This has set the stage for more timely and accurate reporting as those generating reports have more intimate knowledge of the data itself.
