Local removalist breaking industry records through its culture

Local Brisbane removalists have broke the stereotype of your traditional “removalist” through its culture and consequently broke the industry records in relation the their staff turnover rate. The removalist industry average turnover rate is 500% and theirs is under 30%.


It is a common practice for removalists to only keep their job for an average of 2 weeks however, Your Local Movers have proved this is not something that needs to continue. Most of their staff have been around since 2015 with no plans on moving on elsewhere.


Zachary Rook, Managing Director of Your Local Movers, started the company in 2007 when he was 19 years old travelling around New Zealand. Prior to starting his moving company, Zachary was working in a high valet customer service restaurant and running music events, where everything had to be done to a top quality standard. Although he didn’t have much experience as a removalist, he used his experience of delivering high-quality service, which is so important particularly in an industry where you are trusted with others possessions.

“We only use our own staff as that way we are able to thoroughly train each mover to ensure they are fully trained prior to going onto a job. In our recruitment process we focus more on customer service and our grandmother test. We find our customers are able to relate to “The Grandmother Test” as they understand the type of people you would send to your grandmother's home and the type of people you will actually want in your home.”


Zachary believes that culture is king to nurturing a high energy, high performing team so a lot of time is spent in supporting staff to perform at their utmost while having fun. Company outings, fun training in customer care, huddles and ownership of individuals responsibilities are some of the techniques used to empower and energise staff. We base a lot of the success we have on the fact our customers feel our enthusiasm and genuine care because of the culture that is alive in Your Local Movers.
