Child Care Centre in Perth Reveals Why Zero Tolerance Policy for Drugs is Mandatory

Operations manager of child care centre chain in Perth provides full transparency for zero tolerance drug policy.
Perth, WA, 23 June 2016 - Drugs in the workplace, especially child care centres, are becoming a big story, in Perth and across Australia. However, one small child care centre chain in Perth has not had any problems due to their stringent zero tolerance policy towards drugs.

They are called Cuddles Childcare Centres and they have three locations in Perth: Carlisle, Bertram and St James. The management at Cuddles go to great lengths to hire only employees they would trust with their own children. Their process may seem arduous to applicants but it ensures that Perth’s children are in the safest hands at any Cuddles Childcare Centre in the Perth area.

Michelle Coleski is the Operations Manager for Cuddles Childcare Centres. According to Ms Coleski:

“We have had a zero tolerance policy concerning drugs since before we even opened our doors. For us, it has never been a problem. Our interviewing process is pretty strenuous as is our vetting process. We conduct amazingly thorough background checks on all of our employees. We ask questions that help us truly get to know anyone who makes it to the interview process. By the time we have thoroughly interviewed anyone, we feel like we know them better than they know themselves.”

Anyone who passes the interview process for Cuddles Childcare Centres has to pass a drug test before they can be hired but Cuddles takes it a step further with random testing. According to Ms Coleski:

“We like to think that our interview process is enough and that the drug test is just a confirmation that we were right but we like to be 100% sure that we run a drug-free workplace. Consequently, we give at least one random drug test in every centre every month. This costs us a lot of money short term but we feel it is more than worth it in the long run.”

Ms Coleski continued:

“Theoretically, a savvy drug user can often find a way to fool the drug test if they are prepared for it but it’s much harder to fool a random test because they don’t have time to prepare for it. When it’s your turn, you have to report immediately. There is no time to prepare and no time to fool the test. This ensures that your child is 100% safe with our employees at all times.”

While other child care centres in Perth and across Australia have had incidents lately, that is not the case at Cuddles Childcare Centres.

Ms Coleski concluded: “At Cuddles Childcare Centres, we demand that every staff member is at 100% at all times. Anything less puts your children at risk. It is well-documented that there are less crimes and less accidents in drug-free workplaces. A zero tolerance policy and extra testing is a small price to pay for your child’s safety and well-being.”

Cuddles Childcare Centres have three locations in the Perth area. Their motto is “learning through play” and they go to great lengths to ensure that each child is happy while learning valuable lessons that will help them in school and in life.
