The Aussie-inspired Trump TVC banned by US networks

Announcement posted by 360fly 23 Jun 2016

Today global technology company 360fly launched their latest television campaign in the US, with a TVC that answers the question “what would the US look like if Donald Trump becomes President and builds a wall along the Mexico border?”

It is a satirical, light-hearted TVC with Australian satire at its core, with the piece inspired by Australian-born 360fly CEO Peter Adderton. Key US networks including ABC, NBC and CBS have refused to air it.

The campaign was developed to launch the new 360fly 4K camera, which has been simultaneously launched in Australia.

360fly Challenges Consumers To Broaden Perspectives With Politically Charged National Advertising Campaign

Satirical, Futuristic Look at Border Wall, Showcases New 360fly 4K Camera’s Ability to Capture and Experience Every Perspective

Sydney, June 23, 2016 – 360fly, Inc., maker of the category-leading, single-lens camera that captures stitchless 360-degree video, today unveiled a satirical advertisement in support of its recently released 4K immersive 360-degree video camera. The spot satirises the current US political landscape and features actors portraying the three most-prominent US presidential candidates, utilising the widely debated border wall concept as its primary focal point. The campaign is scheduled to begin today on US Television.

The fictional futuristic satire is set in a desert landscape at the foot of the newly constructed border wall, where a rally takes place to celebrate the wall’s construction. While a President Trump look-a-like stands at the podium delivering a triumphant declaration, a blogger in attendance utilizes the 360fly 4K 360-degreee video camera to record the event and captures much more than merely the Presidential address.

The blogger’s finger swipes across the screen of his mobile device, panning across the 360-degree video frame to reveal the end of a tunnel that’s been dug under the wall behind the President. There, Hilary Clinton and Bernie Sanders look-a-likes are assisting Mexican immigrants out of the tunnel that have successfully made their way under the wall and on to U.S. soil. Focused firmly on delivering his triumphant address and claiming the wall is “impenetrable,” the President remains oblivious to the activity, taking place behind him as Mexican immigrants continue to emerge from the tunnel. The spot resolves with the message  “Get a broader perspective. Miss Nothing.” The spot can be seen via the link provided here: https://youtu.be/CVvPPQ3SvAQ

“People are inherently driven to take a side, adopting a very narrow and singular point of view where politics are concerned, and that’s exactly what the camera industry has done for quite a while now,” said Peter Adderton, CEO for 360fly.

“This spot acts like a metaphor for the camera industry and showcases how 360fly allows you to break out of that singular focus and capture and relive experiences from every possible point of view.”

The campaign is designed to leverage news of the revolutionary new 360fly 4K camera, expanded retail presence and satirical creative spot to generate immediate sales as well as brand awareness of 360fly and how the innovative, game-changing cameras and apps will alter the landscape of 360° video. Key digital tactics include high-impact video presence and sequential messaging to generate strong awareness and sales conversion. There will also be social media and search marketing platforms. The plan also features takeovers on key consumer tech and lifestyle websites around launch and continues with a strong retargeting effort to ultimately drive retail sales.

The 360fly® 4K camera, available for $849.95 in Australia from JB Hi-Fi and other specialist retailers, pairs with a free iOS and Android mobile app which allows users to conveniently shoot, edit and share content to popular social media channels such as YouTube and Facebook. The 360fly 4K camera adds a powerful new image sensor that nearly quadruples the resolution of the original 360fly HD camera, shooting in 2880x2880. The waterproof* 360fly 4K camera offers advanced features such as live streaming, front-facing POV mode, time-lapse mode, telemetry and has an expanded internal memory of 64GB.  The 360fly HD is available for $649.95.
