Announcement posted by Little Rockers Radio 23 Jun 2016

Research shows that Australian Children are falling behind our international counterparts when it comes to developing skills such as kicking, throwing, catching and jumping.

Little Rockers Radio today announced they are teaming up with Ready Steady Go Kids to bring fun, physical activity programming to the tens of thousands of children listening to the dedicated children’s radio station monthly!

Short, fun and innovative activity messages have been developed by Occupational Therapists at Ready Steady Go Kids and are designed to get kids jumping like Kangaroo’s, Stretching up and down, Leaping like frogs and shaking their sillies out!

The short, fun activities will feature on air from Monday 27th June and children (and their Mums, Dads and Carers) are encouraged to keep an ear out for the ‘Ready Steady Go Kids’ shout out every 30-minutes, telling them it’s time to get up and get ready to move!

“I am so passionate about children’s health, both physical and mental,” says Sarah Morrissey, Little Rockers Radio founder, “and this is the perfect way to integrate more movement into children’s days. It’s all about getting children to simply include physical activity in their lives and have lots of fun in the process! Including daily activity from such a young age means they grow up with physical activity naturally being a part of their day to day lives.”

“The team at Ready Steady Go Kids are the perfect choice to work with as their passion for children’s health and the development of gross motor skills is unwavering,” said Sarah.

The benefits of pre-schooler participation in sport and physical activity are endless. Gross motors skills are the fundamental skills required to refine fine motor skills. These skills are important because they are the "building blocks" or foundation movements for more complex and specialised skills required by children throughout their lives to competently and confidently play different games, sports and recreational activities offered at school and in the community; and undertake self-care tasks independently.

Several research studies over recent years have shown a decline in the physical skills of Australian Children. We are falling behind our international counterparts when it comes to developing skills such as kicking, throwing, catching and jumping. Parents play a substantial role in determining children’s levels of physical activity, and the subsequent health benefits. However we also know that parents of young children can lead extremely busy lives and therefore incorporating programming like ‘Ready Steady Go Kids’ on Little Rockers Radio is just another way of helping them to meet these needs.

Danie O’Connor, Director at Ready Steady Go Kids is thrilled to find Sarah and Little Rockers. Danie explains that “the partnership makes perfect sense, we both have the same passion for the young children of Australia and believe that building great foundations in the form of a healthy and active life in the early years is essential, particularly in a technology heavy era. We are excited to work alongside Sarah in delivering these important messages’.

Switch on Little Rockers Radio daily from Monday 27th June and listen out for the "Ready Steady Go Kids" call out every 30-minutes. This means you need to get up and get ready to move! Have Fun!!
